Because you can't rely on walks to get on base, especially as the season goes on and SEC pitching talent increases. Relying on walks is not sustainable.
Well, Jacoby has a reputation as a guy who can't hit the breaking ball, so he's seeing a lot of those. Most pitchers at the college level have a greater difficulty in consistently throwing breaking balls for strikes, so it's not really surprising that Jacoby is walking a lot, now that he's improved his discipline at the plate. Jacoby is tall, which means he has a larger strike zone, so normally you'd expect other players to get more walks.

I understand you guys crushing the original poster, but I am not so sure if he is not correct with his question. We will not leave Omaha with a NC with 2 or 3 batters at .200 or below

I'm just asking the question. People on this board act like he's the next Jackie Robinson or Roberto Alomar. He's just another average college second baseman. I think people are still riding the wave of his accolades coming out of high school and his freshman year.

It's a fine question, but there is no option to replace him that is anywhere close to being as good.

So you dont consider a good eye a skill? And already know he will struggle down the line if thrown more strikes

not having him a 2nd would hurt us defensively, he is a great defensive 2B it would hurt to much to bench him. Keep him low in the line up let him find it stride.

He's a potential top 50 pick.

the guy is the most athletic guy on the baseball team, guy is quick makes great plays at 2B, he just needs to develop his hitting, personally if he struggles all regular season then has a great stretch in omaha I won't care if he got no hits in the auburn series.

what people need to realize is that MLB scouts don't just look at stats they look at the player. Scouts will look at how a pitcher handles himself when warming up, how does he handle himself in the dugout after a shaky inning, how is his velocity late in games and so on and so forth. Same goes with batters and fielders.

you could have a guy in college who struggled at times at the plate, but gets picked in one of the first 10 rounds, because he has lots of potential, while someone who has the year of his life (see Rhymes) gets picked very low in the draft because he may have no potential to become a great pro player. Many times players can coast through college not being amazing and then hit the majors and their skill sky rockets and they become great players. I think Brian Wilson is one of these examples I don't remember him enough from college.

His eye is much improved this year, he's getting deeper into counts, he's hitting the ball hard regularly, and his BABIP is .242. That number indicates some 'bad luck', and suggests his batting average will come around soon.

I'm sorry. Maybe I don't know anything about our team, but who exactly are these 2-3 guys that are hitting south of .200. Regulars only please. I'll hang up and listen.

Wow, Jones has a cult following on the Rant!

Bottom line is he is a good infielder but hasn't hit since his freshman year. I don't care how much talent he has, at some point you have to give someone else PT at second...
