Bottom line is he is a good infielder but hasn't hit since his freshman year. I don't care how much talent he has, at some point you have to give someone else PT at second...
Seriously,

Even if that someone else isn't nearly as good? You idiots act like Mainieri is hiding Schimpf of DJ in the dugout. And for the record, JaCoby will have a better pro career than both those guys.

It's a fine question, but there is no option to replace him that is anywhere close to being as good.

Well, Ibarra could play 2nd, but then you'd have to replace him at 3rd.

Wow, I hope you're joking. Ibarra is one of the best defensive third basemen we have had a looonnng time. Please tell me you are joking. Please. Either that or you're really dumb...

Except for the fact that it isn't a fine question whatsoever.

What makes you think he'll be better in the pros than in college? How will he all of a sudden become this stud player against way better competition than he was in college? No disrespect, but I just don't see it that way. At some point in time he has to show something...consistent ability to hit. Some players get drafted on potential, but it won't last if he doesn't produce. He is not a top 50 pick.

I want to. I really do. But watching the idiots in here is like a train wreck. I just can't take my eyes away from it.

Because you can't rely on walks to get on base, especially as the season goes on and SEC pitching talent increases. Relying on walks is not sustainable.

Actually, the opposite is true. Getting walks is a pretty consistent skill. A guy who walks a lot one year will likely walk a lot next year. It is a demonstrable repeatable skill. Even more than batting average, which fluctuates wildly. Why? Because a hitter has very little control whether a batted ball that is not a home run is a hit or an out (he has some, but not a lot). The #1 driver of a high BA is strikeouts. A guy with a low strikeout total puts a lot of balls in plays, and thus, is more likely to have a high BA. Looking at Jones.... look! Low strikeouts!

Really, if anything, his peripheral stats suggest that his numbers are primed to increase. Also, just watch the guy. He makes good, hard contact. He's not weakly grounding out to third. By observation, he's primed to increase his production. When the stats and scouts agree, that's usually a good combo. That doesn't happen all the time.

Dro= Jacoby's dad!

I have nothing against him but he hasn't performed at the plate since his freshman year so at some point potential has to give to production..

Who else to try? So you are telling me LSU has nobody that can hit better than .215 and field as good .974? Well they need to recruit better....

BTW: Who leads the team in Strikeouts?

22-2 and there are threads on the front page wanting to bench the starting second basemen and catcher. Amazing even for the rant.

I don't want to stir the pot too much for the rantards, but Raph played 2B in HS at Neville.
