After watching the Florida game where Jacob picked up first downs on 4th and a yard over and over, I came to realize that the offensive line didn't give him much help. And that is what separates him from other great backs in college football. LSU hasn't had a back that could do that since he left. I watched Les Miles being interviewed last year after going for 4th and a yard instead of going for a sure field goal and he said that the reason he went for it is because they always made it before. And I know that our line was really bad last year but Hester made a lot of first downs on his own. Will LSU have that kind of back this season? With a 4th and 1 and the game on the line?

They were keeping him from getting hit in the backfield, which is something that CS didn't get.

I would not want to stand in the way of Ridley either because he looks like he just might leave cleat marks on a players chest.

In the SEC, D Line are dominant. Holes are tight. You need great O Line play, which was hit or miss last year. And, great running back play, which was mostly miss last year. Exceptions - Scott against UGA in 2nd Half, Scott against Alabama...and that was it. At least in SEC play. Our backs last year had a hard time of breaking the first tackle, bouncing to the next hole when a hole was blocked, or breaking the first tackle. The kid from Bama won the Hiesman because he was great at these skills.

Next year, Tigers need better line play. Yes. But we need better back play too. Which is to overstate the obvious with the 111111111112th or whatever ranked offense.

I wouldn't go that far. However, I would say that LSU in 2007 definitively proves that you don't necessarily need a great offensive line in order to have a great offense. Good schemes can play to your other strengths, which is part of what good coaching is all about.

what are you smoking; granted, hester showed a gritty determination not seen in tiger stadium for quite some time. but the notion that the OL didn't do its part - especially on the last drive - well ------ SIMPLY WRONG

Good point. The Gators almost knew what was coming, and still couldn't stop it despite loading the box.

We had more rushing yards in 2007 than any other year this decade. Pretty sure the line did their job
