In the 2009 Alabama game, Charles Scott was doing just that. He was busting through the line making some key runs. Then he got hurt. Then Jefferson got hurt.

Until that happens, Alabama fans will tell you that they thought LSU might really win the game. I don't have the link, but I've read that from Alabama fans on the SEC board here.

Our running backs have to nut up and punish defenses whether our line is playing well or not.

With Scott and JJ, we would have won.

Bama could plug anyone at RB and he would produce last year. It actually happened

the oline is the most important part of an offense and probably a football game. Without solid play, we aren't going to be very good. The great running teams can still run the ball without their #1 running back

We had more rushing yards in 2007 than any other year this decade. Pretty sure the line did their job

absolutely, we had a dominant running attack that year led by 3 capable backs and a great OL

i hate when people try to make jacob hester something he isnt. he was a very solid back who had 1 great year, he isnt an all-time great, he isnt a legend, and he sure the hell didnt win us the 07 NC by himself

although our line was clearly great that year, don't take anything away from hester. Hester had an injury vs Kentucky on 3rd or 4th down in OT when we just needed a yard or two and Scott (I think he ran it) came in and got shut down and we lost.

dont even bring up hester and the UK game

hester was clearly hurt and should not have been the primary back in that game, scott was GASHING them in the first half, then he vanished

if scott gets the majority of the carries in that game, we win in regulation...theres a difference between being tough and playing through an injury and hurting the team, hester hurt LSU more than he helped that day

good point. Scott was having a good day, but he still didn't get that 1 or 2 yards we needed to win the game. Scott was a great back when there was a hole to run through, but Hester got it done when we really needed it no matter what.

Not to be disrespectful but if you go back and watch the game, on some of the critical runs Jacob was being hit 2 to 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage and he broke tackles and mad the necessary yards. In the Kentucky Charles Scott in the same situation got tackled by the ankle and fell short. Anyone who doesn't give Hester credit don't know squat about football. He will never be remembered for being an elite back as for as yardage goes but he will be remembered in history as a back with a tremendous heart. And he had more to do with the championship because without him, LSU wouldn't have played in the game.

Hester had runs on the 1st 3 downs preceding that Scott run on 4th and didn't pick up the 1st down. He was a very good player he isn't an all-time great and that's not determined by his exceptional performance against UF or his lackluster performance in the UK game.

I would not want to stand in the way of Ridley either because he looks like he just might leave cleat marks on a players chest.

Ridley seems to hesitate in the back field some trying to find the hole...

"They were keeping him from getting hit in the backfield, which is something that CS didn't get."

The 2007 OL was good but if you're talking about the Florida game, they were not always keeping the RB from getting hit in the backfield. One of the first downs driving toward the SEZ, the RB was hit a good 2 yards deep.

Jacob Hester is simaltaneously the most overrated and underrated player in LSU history. Just depends on who you are talking to. but one thing is undeniable... he is clearly a legend.

As for this year, I'm hoping for big things from Michael Ford, like everyone else it seems.

I love Hester but there are 10 guys on the field so I'd say your analysis is a bit scewed... but at the same time, I won't underestimate Hester's determination!

What most fans don't realize is how much we missed Quinn Johnson.....

I think Ford and Allen will be that combination

I get so sick of the hester bashing....Hester had more heart, and even got carries his freshman year....I can't believe all this black and white guy BS.....Hester could get us a couple of yards anytime we needed it. We have not had that since he left...Everyone loved KW, because he might break out to the side and get you a 25 yard scamper or he may take it to the house. However, the other 4 or 5 times he touched it he couldn't get out of the backfield or fell down from an arm tackle. Hester is the only person who time after time could will himslef a yard or two. Charles Scott could do that at times as well. KW could never do that.

As far as Hester not being in the same league as JR, some of you are retarded. Hester will always be an LSU legend and one that helped us to the 2007 National Championship..Take off your WHITEY HATING Glasses....
