Vandy looked like the had larger/faster athletes and put more pressure hitting as they have more power than we do. However, heart, grit, and determination (DEFENSE) goes to LSU.

With all the stud pitchers then this could go either way. 2 equally matched teams IMO

Lsu had more power at the plate!! We would have had at least 2 homers if we were in a normal ball park!!!
Katz would have homered twice and someone else hit a ball I think McMullen that would have been a homer. Lsu would have won decisively in a normal ball park.

this question is an enigma and makes me think you have a hidden agenda. if you are saying EITHER team is better than the other based on this one game you don't know baseball. neither team pitched their week end starters; both teams battled their arse off and played damn good defense. spectacular plays were made by both teams and both coaches coached flawless games. LSU won but a funny bounce here or there and the outcome could have been different. i would expect a 10 game series to be damn close to 5-5 with vandy having a little better bats and lsu having a little better pitching.

any pitcher that gets the calls 6 inches off the plate and 3 inches below the strike zone will be good as long as he puts them there. the guy is good but i haven't seen near enough to call him one of the best closers in college baseball. i think the almost submarine type delivery is distracting at first but doesn't mean shite when consistently throwing to good hitters. relief pitching is where he belongs and where he stays.

but they did not play LSU or Arkansas Who happen to be the two best teams, plus aTm who they lost to in the tourney. That record would've been 9-3 at best had they faced Mengden and Stanek as well, IMO.

We played quite a few common opponents and Vandy had a much better record against those opponents than LSU had.

Aside from head-to-head competition in a meaningful 3-game series, this is the most salient point. Until the CWS is over, Vandy gets the nod based on slightly better RPI, conference champions by a wide margin, and clearly superior record against common opponents. All we have to put against that is one head-to-head with depleted staffs. Plus we were given two important outs by the umps. I like our chances in the NCAA's, but Vandy should get the one seed.

...impossible to tell . Neither team had their top starting pitchers available. Kind of a coble together game . But it shows we have solid depth. I thought Vandy hit the ball better , and harder. Tigers defense made some great plays to save runs , a couple of which were simply good fortune ( i.e: the hard line drive headed to center that 'Cune snared with a reflex ...) Stevenson's run down and catch in center of what appeared as no doubt base clearing extra base hit with bases loaded saved the game - period . Foster throw from right field to get the runner at the plate another game saver. But hey , baseball has many aspects , and we made the plays . Scoreboard . Next game , could go the other way. True dat , cher ...

It's baseball anybody can beat anybody on a given day. It's about 2 out hits and over coming the mistake you make and then capitalizing on the mistake your opponent makes. If we play Vandy 10 times its probably 5-5 split or 6-4 one way or the other

As was mentioned by one of the players, they looked evenly matched. We just made the plays when it counted.

LSU was the better defensive team, and that was without its best second baseman. LSU got to more balls, and LSU did not hesitate to make the proper throws or cover the right bases.

Vanderbilt was the better base running team. I don't know why, but LSU makes more base running mistakes than one would expect from experienced baseball players.

LSU was able to overcome its base running disadvantage better than Vanderbilt was able to overcome its fielding disadvantage in yesterday's single game. LSU was the better team yeaterday.

Yesterday's game did not show who has the better pitching staff, and that would be critical in determining who has the better team over the course of a season. Stating who has the better team for the season is still open to debate. That being said I think a defensive advantage is more valuable over the course of a season than a base running advantage. So I think LSU has the upperhand slightly.
