Most of all, I just hated Saban's tepid little justification for doing it: "Players can get hurt on any play."

Yeah, Saban and Miles both do it, so it must be stupid. They're only the two most successful coaches in college football!

Let's see if you sing the same tune if we lose a starter to an injury late in the fouth quarter while up 38-3.

BTW, it's happened several times already.

Great call Saban! I bet he didn't regret that decision at all!

Should we count the ways in which the Matt Mauck draw call was completely stupid? If the fact that LSU was up 36-7 with less than eight minutes to go wasn't enough of a reason to avoid risking the starting quarterback, Davis and freshman Joseph Addai had combined to run for 54 yards on four straight plays on the drive. Nevermind that you could easily wonder why Mauck was even in the game in the first place, since multiple backups were already rotating in at this point. And when asked post-game about the playcall, Saban could only respond that he didn't call the play. We would find out on Monday that Mauck had broken bones in his foot and would not return the rest of the season. Oddly enough, that one coaching gaff would wind up playing a major role in, not only the rest of 2002, but in 2003 as well.

Gambler's Fallacy. The risk of injury on a given play is the same regardless of how many plays are performed. The statistical risk is identical, as it is an independent event. Much like a hand in poker. Your odds of having a particular hand are identical for each hand dealt, regardless of how many hands you see.
This, whether it's the 1st play of the game or the 50th play, the risk of injury is TE same.

Doesn't this overlook a fatigue factor which is not constant from the 1st play to the 50th play? Also, unless it's adding overall-season value, why incur any risk at all?

And another: Ben Wilkerson

He got hurt on the 2nd to last play against Vandy when we had the ball and up 24-7. For some reason taking a knee wasn't an option, we had to run it

And that's why you decrease the chances of them getting hurt in garbage time.

Or they could get hurt in practice. See Stevan Ridley and/or Chris Faulk.

The coaches know what they're doing, despite what you read on here from most.

I know that valuable players get injured when they should be on the bench resting, and letting backups get experience. You're a fricking dumbass if you believe otherwise.

I never understood Saban's thinking. Not only Ben, Shy Carey was stepping up until he got injured late against Miss St. And someone, anyone, defend him leaving McAaron in so late when he was getting hit all game.

Who cares? He's at Bama now. If you follow what he does frequently, which is what seems to be the case, go cheer for Bama.

You're really whining about the Bama coach keeping Bama starters in too long?

Hey dumbass, headcoaches and politicians are not above reproach and do make dumbass mistakes. Even Saban and Miles. It's my right to comment on things I disagree with, so frick off.

Players can get hurt in practice.

We have a new QB, get him time with the OL to gel in games (not practices).

Oh look, another one who knows more than everyone else. Maybe you should apply to be the next coach.

No you idiot, I'm just using a couple examples to prove to you dumbasses that it's stupid to have your starters playing in garbage time.

I hate you fricking pricks that think that it's blasphemy to criticize Miles.

Like I said, I never said you couldn't talk about it. And if you'd look further, my post was directed to "banone," not you.

I mentioned nothing about Miles so your argument about criticizing Miles is pointless.

Insecure a little?

You seem like a very angry person.

First off, I wasn't talking to you. You saw me post and jumped on it.

It wasn't directed to you. You can take it and run with if you like but again, it wasn't directed to you.

If you're a Saban lover, I don't care.

You missed the point of what I was saying.

I am. I'm sick of you fricking pricks who act like any negative comment about Miles or the team is a capitol offense.

I'm sure you were one of those "Positigers" who had no problem with the way Miles managed the clock against Tenn. or Old Miss and thought he called a great BCSNCG.

Once again, where did I make a comment about Miles or what he does? Or defend it?

And where did I respond to you?

You saw me post, to another poster I might add, and flipped out.
