failed to make the top 64 teams

This is the biggest misconception in College Basketball (much like the whole "NIT is playing to determine the 69th best team"):

Are you really telling me that you think there aren't teams who missed out on the NCAA tournament that were better than:

Vermont
Montana
UNC-Ashville
Long Beach State
Western Kentucky
etc.?

Awesome another year of shitty basketball from the tigers! Maybe Trent can go visit a high school team this year and learn how to play Press defense! Basketball 101

Alleva Will not dump Johnson...
...Agreed. Not this year. Not next year. Not ever, regardless of performance.

This is very far from reality.

The reality is that Johnson is too expensive to fire. His contract was extended at the end of 2011 and it would cost LSU too much to cut him loose.

Plus, his team improved from a year ago. That combined with is contract is what keeps him around. It is business; not ego.

And it is likely that TJ will improve again next year. It wouldn't take that much of an improvement for LSU to make the tourney. 3-4 wins this year might have done it.

ETA: If TJ doesn't make the Tourney next year he will be gone. Simple as that.

“We’ve guarded better (and) we’ve played better than that,” Johnson said. “It was one of those nights.”

I think this statement speaks volumes as to the expectations from the coach. That performance was perfectly acceptable!

Obviously some teams come to play, some don’t; tonight, we didn’t,” Stringer said. “All throughout this year, we had some times where we didn’t come to play, and we got beat.

I think this statement speaks volumes as to what the players feel is expected of them . It is perfectly acceptable to NOT be ready to play.

Very low expectations from the coaching staff = crappy team!

Oh look another rational person who will be skewed as a "TJ Supporter"

You are pretty much spot on, except the cut him loose being too expensive imo.

I think LSU could have handled the $1.3M buyout if they wanted to do it, but he won 2 more SEC games than the previous two season COMBINED. Of course you'd let him finish out his contract since he showed a bit of improvement

There might be, but I doubt LSU is one of them.

LSU is better than WKU, Ashville and LB State imo

the other two maybe I could see an argument for.

And I'm not talking a one game thing because anyone could beat anyone on any given night in CBB.

If LSU played WKU 10 times, LSU would win at least 8 of them. Same with LB State and Ashville

So Brady had a better SEC record and a better ratio of NCAA appearances to years coached than Trent Johnson.

And Brady got fired.

Because he sucked.

Actually at this point in Brady's career (ie 4 years in) he only had 20 SEC wins (one shared SEC title) and one NCAA Tournament Appearance (Sweet 16)

TJ has 25 SEC wins (One outright SEC Title), One NCAA Appearance (2nd Round) and one NIT Appearance.

+1 One would swear LSU has been an elite basketball power.LSU has won one SEC Tournament title in 1980 and reached the SEC tournament finals in 1993.That record hardly speaks of some type of basketball power.I remember when Dale Brown's team blew a 31 pt. half time lead to eventually lose to Kentucky a truly basketball elite power.(The game on Feb. 16,1994 was the largest comeback in NCAA basketball history)

I keep seeing you idiots bring up Coach K's record. It's asinine for so many reasons.

Could you also look past simple records and view the product on the court. We aren't simply a well coached team that's just not there talent wise, that I could handle. But for the most part we look sloppy and poorly coached. Show me a team coached by K that looks so fundamentally stupid as we have consistently looked under Trent

It makes absolutely no sense. Trent's been a head coach for 13 years with a 55% winning percentage. It's pretty obvious by now he ain't Coach K. He's not a youthful up and comer learning the game he is what his record says he is.

TJ will be back. According to Alleva he has said that we are building back this program the right way. Good thing he doesn't listen to some of the ranted noise on this and other web sites.

How could any one not want Trent back? Heck we are the biggest blow out victim in the NIT so far. We continue to lose top recruits in the state. We keep our timeouts until we have one minute left in a blow out game and then call them. In other words no game management. You have to be excited about a number six seed in the NIT. Hey Cleveland State was a six seed and they made the NCAA at one time in their history. We should be happy to be compared to them. If a recruit said Coach Miles was casual in recruiting me, people would be screaming for his head. They say it about Trent, and nothing happens. I guess you get what you expect.

Really TJ took over a dream team, and brady took over with LSU on probation and no schollies. It's apples and oranges. He won the SEC on probation and had a lottery pick. 12 wins in three years in the league...not on probation.

I agree that we probably have not been considered elite (but for the 79-81 seasons we were very, very good).

It is not just a matter of what we've done in the past but also what we could reasonably become. IMO, we can do so much better than we are doing.

From 79-93 we made the NCAA's every year except two (NIT in '82 & '83). That's not a bad run.

Why you (aglandry) have chosen to characterize our program's story as you've done is not helpful.

The delusional LSU fan base wanted Miles fired for winning 13 games and having the best coaching record in LSU football history for the time period he has been at LSU.Half the people calling for TJ's head haven't ever attended an LSU basketball game.

Alleva is a damn idiot, why couldn't we just let Tennessee have him? It shows you the brillaince of the BOS that we gave that buffoon a raise.
