Stellar Defense.
i think this is the worst, slowest outfield i can remember.

having said that, i watched a ton of baseball this weekend. defensively, lsu looks as good or better than pretty much everyone.

With only one good arm, too, and that is if Edward or Katz is in RF. Tigers are good at creating W's, who knows, but Katz and Rhymes are going to have to catch fire. Getting JJ on base consistently would be a huge plus as well.

Austin Nola is my MVP of the season. Money in the field and solidified the lead off spot when it was a black hole for most of the season. He has really been good at the plate the last 6-7 weeks and spectacular in the field. Others will point to RR, KG or possibly Katz, but Nola is my man for what he has done to cement the team and his all around productivity.

South Carolina looked pretty good this weekend. Much better than us.

5-4 in 12 innings and 4-3 against unranked Clemson is so much more impressive than what LSU did to #16 Oregon State.

Are they the best team? Probably not, but if you're good enough to make it you're good enough to win it.

Yes we can.

We've made a lot of base running mistakes this year compared to others. I sometimes wonder if our lack of hitting has made us necessarilly more aggressive on the base pads.

With some good bullpen work and timely hitting...yes to number 7.

Meaningless.

State won the SEC tourney, and they're back home in StarkVegas licking their wounds today.

Bama has won the thing numerous times...how many CWS titles do they have to show for it?

I'd much rather play the roll of the underdog anyway.

Yes, they're good enough. This team isn't exceptionally talented or flashy, but is very strong in a lot of areas. Very strong pitching staff (better than 2009 in my opinion), very good defense (better infield than 2009, but not as strong in the outfield), a good mix of leaders in Nola and Hanover (both of whom played in the 2009 CWS) and youth.

The team's only major weakness is power hitting, but that weakness is mitigated by the fact that the bats are hurting just about everyone.

As others have mentioned, they need someone other than Raph or Katz to step up and go on a tear, much like Sean Ochinko did late at the CWS. Mainieri seems to have a good sense of when to move a guy up in the lineup, often times before he has come through in a game situation. I think he bumped Ochinko up to the 4 hole in the title game, and Ochinko delivered big time (I think he went 4-5 with a home run).

That's only because our recent outfields have had guys like Leon Landry, Jared Mitchell, and Mikie Mahtook. Those guys have rare abilities at the college level and spoiled us. The current outfield is decent, but certainly not the worst I can remember.

I think they have as good of a chance as anyone. The Tigers know they can win low scoring one run games. That confidence can go a long way. And of course, we only lose 5 seniors to graduation. Next year should be pretty good.

Yes...and please do! Will be pulling for you guys (and Pac-12 sans quackers). You guys have the hitting, pitching that's for sure. Not sure of your pitching depth (which is always critical), but hope you guys can do it.

Pitching is about the same I think, perhaps a little off.

KG is just as good as Louie Coleman was.

Admit Nola is no AR, but he is getting better.

Eades is as good as Austin Ross.

Closer in Goody, just as good as Ott.

Middle relief is better.

Cotton is as good as Chad Jones.

The hitting is the issue. We don't have the bats like we did in 09. Defense is probably better on this team in the infield than in 09, but the defense is worse than the 09 team in the outfield.

If we can string a good inning together in each game, we have the pitching to win it all. The key is good multiple innings or one good inning scoring runs.

Just my $.02.

Yes, we are. The pitching is among the country's best and we have two legit starters as long as Little Nola keeps it up. Eades needs to do his thing for a few innings then let the bullpen take over and we'll be good.
Defensively, we're terrific. The outfield is decent but the infield is the best in recent memory.
The bats have been a concern all year, but we seem to get the hits when we really need them (see Nola, Ross, Dozar, and Edward just this past weekend) and are gritty enough to win the close games.

All those things are going to go a long way in Omaha if we can get there. Other teams are very good as well, but there is no one true dominant one so I like our chances. Like someone said last night...the Box in the postseason is magic; LSU in Omaha is also magic

We just need that one special inning and we can hold on with out arms.

I’ll say yes IMO,because of several different reasons:
1) We have the pitching and a just good enough offense to make the run in Omaha
2) If we win the first two games we are in the driver’s seat, which I think is very possible especially if Nola stays hot
3) There are no stand out teams this year…except for maybe Florida
4) We have some Omaha experience on this team which is beneficial
5) Finally, it’s LSU Baseball. They win national championships… It’s what they do
