Someone said this to me during the course of a conversation this week:

"Anything Miles has won of significance at LSU has been with Saban's players."

I don't necessarily agree with it because of the 2011 season despite the terrible end to it.

What does the rant think about this? True or False?

Was being told that by a Florida fan last year at the game the whole time. And then we beat them. So frick em.

But that logic is dumb. Les has always had elite talent.

False. Miles took over a 3 loss program that had 1 top 5 finish in over 2 decades.

He still had Saban's players on that 2007 team.

I guess it will be interesting to see bama after saban leaves. If the next guy can win a title soon after.

Don't forget Les won the west in year 1. So any coach that doesn't do that is already behind. And Les still had to recruit when a lot of current and future prospects at the time were displaced all across the country.

Doubt anyone at bama or LSU will have to go through that. He still doesn't get enough credit for that by our fans either.

Ask that person if you remove Saban and Urban, what coach has the success of Les since 2005?

And then when he goes dumb on you, let him know those are the two most accomplished coaches in recent - and maybe all-time CFB history. Then remind him, Les has had to coach against both 6 seasons(Urban) and 9 seasons(Saban) in the same 12/14-team league.

Miles has his flaws, but 2011 was an SECC season and would have been a NC season if Saban didn't get a do-over after losing at home to LSU in "game of the century".

This is such a ridiculous statement. Why did Saban go 9-3 with his own players in 2004? How does Saban lose to freaking Iowa in a bowl game with his players at LSU?

Miles won a championship in 2007.. Saban left when again? 2004ish? I would imagine the bulk of his entire roster were guys he recruited, and if not.. they are all guys he had to develop. Also, most of those guys were coming to LSU regardless of the coach.

Miles had one of the greatest regular seasons ever in 2011 as well.

Harder to do than with your own players. When was the last time Saban won anything with someone else's players? What a stupid argument.

False. The only way this it's true is if you say that Saban won with Dinardo's players.

For this to be true, he would have to won with no players of his own. If any of his recruits played, the statement is false.

andhe won with Schula's players, while urban won with zook's.

Even the people who despise miles know that the "won with Saban's players" is an abso-fricking-lutely preposterpus and idiotic idea.

Was this said in 2006?

Because that's the very last season that argument would hold any sort of credence.

It's a 12 year old argument and it's ridiculous for people to bring it up.

Not saying you're ridiculous but what I mean is that at this point, 12 years later, you'd think people (mostly non fans of LSU) would've gotten past it.

Moreover, the same could be applied to just about every other coach, Saban with Shula's players, Meyer with Zook's players, Harbaugh with Hoke's players, and so on.

Miles seems to generally get the shaft for some unknown reason yet he continues to bring in top recruiting class after top recruiting class and I don't understand why he gets so much grief.

It's as if all the rules apply to Saban, Meyer, so forth but Miles just gets dumped on because of his quirky mannerisms. That's it.

I'm a big fan of Miles and he's one of the best. Yes, he gets frustrating at times but make no mistake, he's a good coach.

He took over a program that had lost less than 3 games just 2 times in over 2 decades.

True, but with the players he inherited, he had 3 top 5 finishes, 1 sec and one nc in 3 years. Once those players were gone...1 top 5 finish, 1 sec and 0 nc in 8 years.

He's 24x more likely to finish top 5 with Saban's players.

Kinda sounds like you already know the answer.

Guess sometimes you just have to start a thread about something tho
