The 2007 squad, yes, however that is no slight as every HC inherits somebody else's players and no small feat in getting them to the pinnacle of college football. His 11 team was lights out. I do believe he has missed opportunities but welcome to the human race...who hasn't...most of us do so in private and not in full view of the world

Yeah, the whole "winning with ____'s players" is tiresome. Unless the new coach goes full Larry Coker and truly implodes once his inherited talent leaves, it has no merit. 2011 put to rest this argument against Les.

Miles did more with Saban's players than Saban did. So you can always shut them up with that.

A little off topic, but: In this society when it's comes to big significant leaders, in their poor light/criticism, we label them either an arsehole or an idiot, or a biotch or an idiot. Obama-arsehole, Bush-idiot, Hillary-biotch, Palin-idiot. Same is true in coaching, Saban-arsehole, Miles-idiot. Doesn't mean he is, but since he's a generally nice guy and can't be labeled an arsehole, people just put him in that "idiot" category and I believe he embraces it to a certain degree because it allows him to be underestimated.

True, but with the players he inherited, he had 3 top 5 finishes, 1 sec and one nc in 3 years. Once those players were gone...1 top 5 finish, 1 sec and 0 nc in 8 years. He's 24x more likely to finish top 5 with Saban's players.

I believe Ricky Jean Francois, Richard Dixon, Brandon lafell, Joseph barksdale, drake Nevis, and I'm sure more we're miles players. Not sure we win it w/o those players.

The players that were so called Saban players were coached for three years by miles and sat the bench under Saban.

However, the best and most talented football team in lsu history was 2011. All miles players.

Argument is really dumb. Saban is the best coach. Miles doesn't get enough credit for being as good as he is. He's a top 10 coach in his era and there really isn't a valid argument against it.

it's a stupid comment. yes, les inherited some damn good players but so did saban. saban won the natty in his 3rd year at lsu and so did miles.

I never hear shite about saban winning his first natty at bama with shula players. miles haters are like the scum in both of our political parties; they make shite up and constantly berate the other side. so much where anyone with a brain should discount what they say. but they don't because it's emotional and their brain is not used. same here. saban had and still has "worshippers" at lsu and they will always remain loyal to him no matter what miles does. imo, the bastards should just defect; they are not lsu.

Truth. Les is honestly a fantastic coach when you consider how he runs his program. Top notch recruiting, sustained success, keeps the program out of NCAA trouble, makes good hires, usually fields a strong defense and special teams...his sole shortcoming is with the passing game. Just about every coach has a shortcoming of some sort and it's easy to forget how good of a program CEO he is. If Saban wasn't at Bama, Les would be more respected. It's just bad luck that Saban is there.

2003 was pretty successful, and 2004 was only hampered by Mauck leaving early. Saban had LSU positioned for an epic run with JR, Flynn, and all that other talent. No reason to think Saban wouldn't have also won a NC at some point 2005-2007.

That doesn't disprove my statement. Mine is a fact, yours is an opinion.

bullshite. Saban walked into a program littered with future nfl players.im not saying Miles didnt walk into a better situation but this notion that saban had no talent when he got here is just false. His 1st few teams had some of the best players to ever wear p&g.

2003 was Dinardos players, and 2005-2007 was Sabans players? So in 5 seasons at LSU, Saban only got to coach his own players one year.

By the logic of the statement in the op, yes.

I would imagine the bulk of his entire roster were guys he recruited, and if not.. they are all guys he had to develop.
So by W/L record Miles did more with Saban's players.

You misunderstood. I wasn't comparing the rosters they inherited. I was comparing the national perception, and perception is reality. LSU was not viewed as an elite national program when Saban took over. He got there, "built a fence" around Louisiana, won with mostly homegrown talent, and by the time he left the next LSU coach could walk into a living room in Miami or Houston and credibly say, "come play for our elite football program."

Saban won the first title there since the 50's. He made LSU elite again from a national perspective as well as making it a destination school for recruits across the country.

Still really dumb. Some of the players/starters on the 2007 team were signed by miles. They were not All Saban players. Therefore, you omitted this fact. He lost some of his great players too. Why omit that fact? Because it doesn't support your opinion? Hmmmm
