Is Skip Bertman considered the best college baseball coach in history?

I know the U of Texes coach had just as many national titles and more wins overall (I believe).
Who is considered the best college baseball coach of all times?

Auggie made Cal State Fullerton what it is, and did a hell of a job at Texas. Skip and Auggie are 1.A and 1.B .

I think the biggest difference between the two is what Skip did for college baseball overall, not just for LSU. I feel Skip made college baseball what it is today as far as fanbase, major stadiums, and tv coverage.

He was really good, but he had unlimited schollies. Fred Lynn didn't start for USC until his Junior year, 2 years later he was rookie of the year and MVP in the American league. Talked to him in 1998 the night LSU lost to USC for the 2nd time, very nice man, in an Italian rest.

Skip was more than a great baseball coach. Some forget all the things he did to get people into the old Box. I remember the San Diego Chicken coming to BR a few times, the used car give aways, the family plan season passes, and the golden arches light in center field...if a home run was hit while it was on, everyone could win a free Big Mac. He was a great marketing exec too!

When Skip took over LSU was pretty bad and the few fans used to yell at the "ref". He changed the culture and promoted the game; something he learned at Miami under Fraser.

That isn't really a question that can be answered accurately. Each generation has a top coach that not only won a bunch but showed the way for everyone else.
Dedeaux was probably the first. Before him, college baseball was something nobody paid attention to at any school. He showed how to take that first big step.
Fraser, Bertman and Garrido stood on his shoulders and demonstrated how to turn college baseball into something profitable, and draw in fans.
They all built something to which today's coaches owe their livelihoods.

Skip is certainly in the top 5. As an AD, he was one of the worst. As soon as he got the AD job, he ran off Pat Henry.....the greatest collegiate coach of any sport!!

This. If Skip wasn't restricted in the number of scholarships that he could award, he would have won far more national titles than Dedeaux even.

Skip dude and it's not even close in my opinion. Auggie was a head coach for 47 years and Skip was only 17 years. Dedeaux from USC had a hell of a dynasty in the 70's but even he coached there for 45 years. So Skip it is

Dedeaux was the lowest paid coach in the history of college athletics. Made $1.00 per year.
