Is our scheme on offense really that elementary ?

Is the supposed simplicity of it just exaggerated or is it really just a few run plays and throwing bombs? I just can't see how someone that is paid millions can justify putting together such a simple scheme. I know there is more to it than what I described but it sure doesn't seem like it. Why bring in a former NFL coordinater if you are just going to handcuff him?

Absolutely! Game in and game out. The better coaches and teams have watched the films well!

Ask this, out of all of the OC's that have been here in the last decade, have any of them run different plays or schemes or have they all been exactly the same?

When was the last time we even ran a draw play?

when you add in how badly coached it all appears their seems to be a problem particularly on the offense side of the ball.

I'm not going to deny that injuries on the OL clearly impacted the Arkansas game - and possibly the Bama game, in hindsight. Having said that, this team makes entirely too many mental errors - blown assignments in pass coverage - blown assignments in blocking (particularly pass blocking) - and the penalties...just...keep...adding...up.
I'm a certified positiger and I can see this team is fundamentally flawed. What we lost sight of was this was supposed to be an 8-4 year - with all the youth, lack of depth at LBer, starting so many true freshmen, etc. - they did so well (during the easy part of the schedule) early, it is making this tough stretch even worse.
However, the little things should be improving (missed assignments, penalties). They aren't. I'm as stumped as Miles, but I don't get paid $12k a day to handle it. He's clearly on the hot seat - winning out (and the bowl) will only do so much at this point.

Other coaches have publicly commented on how predicatable our scheme is. It doesn't no matter who the OC is as long as Les is watching over things because he has the final say

Read an Athlon pre-season that had quotes from various assistant coaches in the SEC about LSU.
One of the quotes that's always stuck out to me was the coach who said, and I paraphrase, "LSU runs a base offense and the same plays over and over. They're successful because they're so physical and been able to recruit great athletes."
This was from 3-4 years ago…

Anyone with a tv knows our game plan. It never changes.
For a while, it worked. It's no secret now. There is no creativity on offense at all.
And for the most part, I like our ground and pound thing, I like that. With that being said, there has to be alternative gameplans.
There are little to no adjustments made. Just keep doing what doesn't work. Keep banging your head against the wall. That's what has so many fans, including myself, aggravated to no end.

Seems as if it's the worst of both worlds.
On the one hand it's so simple that opposing defensive coordinators easily guess the plays we run. Hell, fans' wives, girlfriends, and small children correctly name the plays we run.
On the other hand, it's so complicated, it takes our quarterbacks years to learn it.

Exactly what I came to say. It's odd. It's telling that I can watch any other college game and not see an offense like LSUs.

quote:Simple solution. Recruit QB's that can run what Les and Cam want to run without a massive learning curve going from what they ran in high school to what they're going to be running at LSU! Cease and desist with the totally inane & crazy "SqPgRdHo" QB recruiting....................

The closest offense to ours is arkansas ,but they have the best tight end passing scheme in college football plus their power runs plays are mixed with balanced passing.

I don't think Bama even bothers to watch film anymore.

If we as fans can get a strong sense of what plays will be run then imagine someone who does this for a living can read.

It's pretty basic and stripped down.

(Gulp) Gary Crowton was the best OC to date under Miles.
