Lb coach, then he went to Clemson and got fired. Dude wasn't good enough to be a dc for Clemson, think about that

Does Nick Saban hire incompetent coaches?
Does he keep people around his program that don't produce?
Is he dumb enough to hire people that aren't qualified for the job twice?
we hired him for a different job.
LB coach isn't DC

he has also let bobby williams stick around as special teams coach for a while.
i don't know too many bama fans who care for him.

Uh, yeah, he has a series of lackeys.
Bobby Williams has been with him forever. Bo Davis as well.

Have you ever had an extremely stressful job? Probably not but those that have can tell you that for some the decision to work for less pay and less stress is a tradeoff they are willing to take. No one but Steele and Saban know why that was done. I don't claim to know either but I do know that when you have the control over a program that Nick has you don't keep someone around and pay them what he was paid for nothing.
And if this guy can give us some insight as to how the Alabama recruiting machine is run that has allowed them to do what they do and not violate NCAA rules, or at least not get caught, then I want him on my side.

No he wasn't demoted as a LB coach. He was promoted to Head Defensive Coach and Associate Head Coach. Smart was named co-defensive coordinator with him.

Why are you people so dense? HE WAS A POSITION COACH AT BAMA. We're hiring him as a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. There's an effing difference. HE MAY BE A GOOD POSITION COACH, BUT NOT A GOOD DC...cot damn

Idoit, read the question before responding. I didnt do any comparison. I said he hired kiffin and had steel on staff, many of bama fans didnt approve of the kiffin hire and probably didnt support Saban rehiring Steele.

He was Director of Player Personnel two years ago for Bama. Meaning when he wasn't on the road recruiting he basically had a 9-5 job in the athletic department.
Not playing him up or tearing him down. You can take it a couple of different ways... He's a great recruiter and could do wonders on the recruiting trail for us, or there's a reason he hasn't been more than a position coach under Saban.
TIFWIW. He's our DC whether we like it or not now.

At least do this:
Steele: LB coach
Orgeron: DL coach
Brick: DC
Damn. What could have been.

And you are qualified to make this assessment based on....the years you spent on...what coaching staff was it again?

Nope. Did he put up a fight trying to keep this guy?
Not only did he get rid of an overpaid assistant, he managed to get a division rival to pick him up and pay him more money to take a crucial position that he'll likely fail at.
If/When Saban picks up Orgeron, this shite is just gonna be more laughable.

Such a typical rantard response. Your OP is laughable for the reasons I just posted. Saban having him on staff does not proove that he's a good DC. Your entire argument is ridiculous. His history as a DC is how I base my assessment...and it's not good.

You have no idea what I do for a living so don't assume.
Even if steele voluntarily took the demotion, guess what? ?? He's gonna be the dc here, which will be the same job that you are wildly assuming he took a demotion from because of the stress.
Not only are you assuming he voluntarily demoted himself, now he's back in the same position.
People are saying he's a good recruiter and I hope that's true but he's been underwhelming as a DC and a head coach. I hope he does a better job this time around but LSU should've landed a guy with a better resume as a DC than Steele

Like who? Who is this available coach who wanted the job and we just didn't offer?
Posted on 1/13/15 at 9:58 pm to BilJ
It's the truth. People keep spreading false info. He was never fired or demoted at Bama.
