IDK. Not sure the bats will stay this way. If people stop showing up due to boredom, they could go back to live bats.

He did that so he can go pro after one season of JUCO. If he would have gone to LSU he would have had to wait until after his junior year to go pro. Juco he only has to wait one year and hope his pro stock jumps higher.

Maybe so, but this kid really wanted to be a Tiger. He may get drafted this summer. Hard worker and hell of a hitter.

I realize the bats have changed so the expectations of how many HRs a power hitter produces is much lower. However, there are certain positions on the field i.e. first base where you should expect more power production based on the fact that this player is generally big and slow and doesn't have to be relied upon for defense (to a certain degree). By having a power guy in the order, it makes it easier for the guys in front of him to hit bc they see better pitches and the power guy gets to hit with people on base. It's also easier to score runs bc you do t have to string together multiple hits if you have a guy or two that can hit more extra base hits. I'm not saying you need a whole roster of these guys bc that's unrealistic, but you have to take advantage of the built in power positions on the field to build up your potential for scoring runs. Just my opinion.

the bats changed at least in part for safety. I doubt that they will go back.

StatMaster, I can assure you that the BBCOR bats hitting High School this year will affect how upcoming hitters hit. I think the day of the fat 1B who can hit dingers is over. Infields will be playing in and the whole game will be changing to the core.

And IF there is a special kid who can hit homers at will, they will just be pitched around, as the next guy probably won't have that power.

Remember the same bats that are giving power hitters trouble are also affecting for-average hitters. Simply put, there's just a whole lot less energy on EVERY ball hit.

I think baseball will still want power hitters, but not big slow fatter ones. Like the TE position in football, the power hitter is transforming. They'll also need to be fast and play some defense too at various positions. Speed and defense will become increasingly important.

Thats my 2 cents, now everyone can stay awake long enough through a game.....

I know my son doesnt like the bbcore bat. He should though, he is a line drive hitter with speed. He just became a lot more valuable.

Actually, its not the bats which sank LSU, but the over-reaction to the bats. Mahtook put up a historically great season which was pretty much wasted by an offense in which nearly half of the hitters were negatives. Which lead to an excess of bunting and giving away outs, making it even harder to score runs.

The problem isn't not having a big power hitter, but not having four decent hitters to fill out the back of the order.

Jones gets a lot of back spin on the ball. He will be a star and if he has the right mindset at the plate he could hit over .400.

Great post by MetTiger and I agree. And I think our coaches are doing a good job of recruiting now based on how the BBCOR era will affect the game. Guys who get on base, can run, and play defense will be a hotter commodity now.

Easton Power Brigade is supposed to be the hottest line this year. 4 bats, 2 alloy, 2 composite, 2 balanced, 2 end loaded.

Which sucks for drumming up fan interest. The NCAA should consider allowing steroids.

here is one in Gulfport, Ms. All state player on a 6A team that has batted in the 4 spot since 10th grade. He has played for the La. Knights, Ms All star team that played in Okie land last yr. No love from the Tigers. He signed with Jones CC today. Oneof the top jucos in the country. Die hard Tiger fan.

how does a great player escape USM, MSU and Ole miss?

he's either A)not that good or B)has his sights set on going pro sooner than later

Finding them isn't difficult... finding one who can hit it with the new bat laws is.

And unfortunately, I don't see much difference this year. Lots of role players and one possible offensive star (Jones).

But a whole lotta fricking sick pitching.
