And its funny... when OBJ and Jarvis declared everyone praised them and thanked them for their services. But when Freak / Ego / Simon / Faulk did, most people on here just said those guys were making dumb decisions, they should return.

That's because there is very little chance of Beckham and Landry increasing their draft position by enough to offset giving up a year of salary but the other guys had a decent chance of doing so.

Last year there was a substantially larger pay difference between the 50th pick and 75th pick than between the 75th pick and the 253rd pick. Anyone who has a chance of being a top 50 player the following draft but is projected third round or later should think really hard about returning.

Anyone who is definitely top 2 rounds or has no chance at the top 2 rounds the following year should bounce.

And whose to say that Freak, Ego, Simon or any other player for that matter would have improved their stock if they returned?? You have just as good of a chance to hurt your stock as you do to improve it. And you can get hurt and then not be drafted at all.

Again, due to the new CBA if youre not a 1st round pick its not about the $$$ in the 1st contract. Its about getting to the NFL and getting that 2nd contract.

50th pick last draft was Jon Bostic. His contract is 4 years $3.9mill, average salary of $985,000 a year. Terron Armstead was the 75th pick last year. His contract is 4 years $2.9mill, average salary of $717,000 a year.

And also, league minimum is over $400k is you make the 53 man roster. And if you get hurt, you still get $$$ and you get NFL doctors and treatment and its all paid for.

Some of this data is interesting, but the analysis is not correct. You can't just subtract the states % of U.S. population and subtract that from the NFL participation. You have to divide the numbers. It shows that Louisiana has 3 times the number of NFL players than one would expect based on population. The next best state would be South Carolina with almost twice as many, followed by Georgia and Florida with 1.5 times the number. Louisiana crushes when it comes to NFL talent. Thanks goodness we keep our fair share in the state for college.

So Bama, Florida, UGA, Oregon, Stanford, USC, Florida State, the entire Big 12, and the entire Big 10 don't have anywhere near the same amount of guys that have been at their schools for four years and are capable of being drafted?

There is clearly a problem at LSU. Its not a problem that they leave (hope they make tens of millions), its a program issue that so many want to leave here compared to everywhere else in the country.

And if we're so blessed with unbelievable underclassmen talent that apparently no other team can match, then I want a detailed explanation as to why its ok we've lost 6 games over two years with this talent since its so far above any of our competitors and entire major conferences.

Bama 11-2
UF 4-8
UGA 8-5
Oregon 11-2
Stanford 11-3
USC 8-5
FSU 14-0
LSU 10-3

The year after we lost all this talent and more talent than anybody, blah, blah, blah, we still win ten games. Stop being paranoid pussies.

Wing wasn't on the team and Mathieu was kicked off, that's 15 kids from roster. Seven of them were four year players. That's eight in two years who were here only three years.

I'm glad we had guys good enough to leave in four years time like they should.

But no one deals with it more. And it hasn't been close these two years. That is the issue.

Has your nonsensical arse even looked at the rates this year? If you look at things in a yearly stage you'll see that LSU is on par this year with the likes of USC, Cal, Bama, UF, etc of sending 4, 5, and 6 "underclassman"{ guys to the NFL.

The new CBA has basically made it irrelevant to stay a fifth year because improving status doesn't yield much in return and you still run the risk of career ending injury.

Maybe we recruit kids that are TOO smart so they realize it's actually a better business decision to go pro ASAP with the new rookie contract rules?

Honestly I blame Les for this. He needs to start recruiting dumber kids or this program is going in the toilet! We need to keep up with other schools that are also losing tons of kids! We need to stop red shirting so we can keep up!

Recruit the best. Always. Everyone else does. Those players stay. Ours don't.

It sucks that LSU is the only school with early outs.
