eh

BT just didn't like black people/QB's in general it seemed like.

I defended JJ in discussion because I thought he'd eventually get better. After vandy 2010, I couldn't stick up for the guy anymore.

I don't know how you defend what Jefferson's said here.

Well, since just me doesn't seem to post very much around here lately, I'll go ahead and temporarily fill the role of legal defense for the accused.

My argument would be this: This is the kind of shite that gets said when reporters shove a microphone in the face of players and demand that they come up with a bunch of soundbites and quotes.

I think Jefferson is genuinely a good, hard-working kid. He's not without his character flaws, but what the hell is he supposed to say when reporters ask him questions?

"Yes, I suck, and I have no idea why Coach Miles has confidence in me."

"Yes, I admit I was terrible, but unfortunately, I can't seem to improve any."

"Damn, this SEC game just seems beyond my capabilities, and I'm just going to do the best I can to try to keep up and hope the rest of the team keeps bailing me out."

Look, none of those are good answers. It's just a shitty situation, and deep down, I think he knows it's a shitty situation.

Even if he truly is delusional and doesn't realize it's a shitty situation, then you know what? So much the better. At this point in his career, maybe it's best to just focus on the positives and keep trying to win games with a busted-play, sandlot style offense of improvisation and sheer willing yourself to inefficient victory after inefficient victory.

I mean, let's face it, people. The media sucks. If you are a player in a shitty situation, why not frick with them? Better than letting them make you miserable if you ask me.

The defense rests.

Doc, I agree with you. Jefferson is not living in teh same reality the rest of us are. He is what he is and I'm not basing that off the Spring Game. It was just one more piece of evidence. He is who he is. You are going to get just that.

he's really not...

he'll have a game like mcneese last year and tell everyone at the post game presser "I thought I played pretty well"

no, no you didn't JJ... you accumulated 4 total yards.

Yeah, LSU would be much better off with just having JL and not another QB who had ever taken a snap in FBS/BCS/SEC football.

not so much a fan boy as someone who thought he would progress into a decent QB... we kept seeing glimpses of good plays...

then... not so much

I think mett is the future. he's not some 18 year old green kid that doesn't understand whats going on. He was going to be the starter at georgia until his frisky business... the kid looked better than anything i've seen LSU field for a QB in 3 years

I really wasn't in the best situations at times," Jefferson said of 2010. "It's kind of hard to be successful when you're in a third-and-six situation. That puts you in a situation you have to complete a 10-, 12-yard pass. That's kind of hard for any quarterback to do. If you [convert] 20 percent of that, that's almost good."

you have to be fricking kidding me, i almost fell out my recliner.

Funny, I didn't think anyone involved with LSU athletics was worse at talking to the media than Les.......I stand corrected.

Like I've said in a different thread (1 of the 1000 about JJ), he doesn't show leadership qualities. And his view on "improvement" is obviously limited if he thinks he is doing just fine.

I hate to see what would happen if he played WELL.

Like anything anyone says is gonna take the spotlight off the LSU starting QB no matter who it might be.

I think our team is stronger/better having JJ/JL/Mett to draw from than having only JL/Mett to drawn from and if you don't, so be it.

why shouldn't he protect his players...he's been basically Miles' only option for 2 years and Miles hopes he can squeak out a few more while Mett gets ready. Frankly I would like to hear something different from JJ, but he's been coddled for a reason.

The Mett-siah

I think this is a pretty good article on the QBs in the Times Pic

quote:

But Zach Mettenberger isn't around for nothing.
LSU didn't go after the junior-college transfer as hard as it did just for the sake of adding a third quarterback, didn't sign the once-prized Georgia recruit because of his manners and ability to run the scout team.
Jefferson's leeway likely lost a lot of "lee" once Mettenberger became a Tiger.
