Isn't this a slap in our face? An indictment of where basketball stands in the pecking order at LSU?
Football
Spring football
recruiting for football
Baseball

and then somewhere down there basketball.

I mean, if basketball is so unimportant, how can we get a nationally known quality coach who can recruit? Do we need to get a hot shot young guy and over pay?

Part of the problem is that Johnson didn't do anything to help the basketball improve. Without a winner, fans are not going to flock to the arena. Remember the glory days when Dal Brown was winning, the arena was a alive. Now you have a new practice facility and an improved arena. We need more Louisiana flavor on staff. Johnson wasn't the man for this job when Alleva hired him.

I was at LSU when Dale had the place rocking (73-79). Hell I was the first student on line many times. We need someone who can deliver the goods on the court and off.

I've said this for the last two years. Johnson did not want to be at LSU. Now that he knows that his employment would last just one more season if things didn't drastically change, he's getting out while he can. The man showed NO emotion during games, he didn't recruit and really the last 3 years the team barely improved. He was just going through the motions at LSU. Johnson and LSU were not a good fit and personally, I'm glad to see him go. He's been at LSU for four years and we are worse now than when he arrived. Adios Trent, don't let the door hit you in the arse.

maybe behind the scenes he was feeling the pressure to move on instead of being fired in public. Looks better for both sides.

If LSU wants to keep Trent Johnson from going to TCU it should make him a counter offer with a long term contract. Hypothetically speaking, if Johnson were to then turn down that counter offer from LSU then, yes, it would be a slap in the face. As things stand now, a move by Johnson to TCU appears to be in the best interests of both parties.

You mean sort of like a guy named Paul Bryant leaving UK for aTm because Basketball was THE sport and football wasn't emphasized as much?

As for pressure on Trent to resign... IDK ... But having only 1 recruit committed couldn't help.

As for all the Tim Floyd "fans".... Get real, that would have been a good hire 20 years ago, but not today.

This could well be the case. Alleva isn't blind. He saw the product on the court and 8,000 empty seats. I mean, he would have to be blind not to have seen it. Whether LSU is a basketball school or not, it should be self sustaining, not a drain on football and baseball. Hell, he saw there were more people in the PMAC for the women's games than the men's. One more year would have hurt more in the long run, it would have only delayed the inevitable. Get a coach that wants to be at LSU and make it his team.

My thoughts as well. For whatever reasons Trent didn't work out here and suspect he's escaping to a more secure position.

Almost as bad as having your offensive coordinator leave for Maryland, of all places.

Oh wait...

I can't believe Doug Mallory left LSU for New Mexico. What a slap in the face to les miles and it really shows what kind of state our football program is in.

I havn't seen LSU fans support a basketball coach in generations. Dale Brown and John Brady both had success, and neither one recieved support, relative to other good baseketball programs.

Why would a great coach want the LSU job based on the lack of support by the fan base. This is not a flame, it is been said by others in the college basketball business.

I remember when Tim Brando had his radio show on in BR. He said the same thing and got run out of town. The truth hurts.
