I'm usually excited to see how our offense does, but..

It's hard not to be excited for Aranda. He had some absolutely brilliant games year one, mainly Bama.

That to me, was a clear representation of what he brings to the defense. Lamar Jackson , the heisman winner.. was shut down by this man.

Canada has me excited but I felt the need to start an aranda circlejerk.

Our D didn't look awesome in the spring game. I'm not sure if that's a nod to Canada or a drawback of losing the talent on D from last year. I'm leaning to the latter, because I do know our LB core is young (very talented, but young), hopefully they make the needed improvements.

You really want to start something? What would have been the reaction to Aranda to head coach, O to DC, and Canada at OC?

I think Adams, White, Riley, Godchaux, Neal had a role in that as well. That's not to say Aranda isn't a good coach (he is), but the defense lost a ton of big time players. To expect this year's defense to be better or even as good as last year's group is a bit unfair.

I think the defense takes a slight step back this year because it's just really hard to immediately replace multi-year experienced All SEC type players.

Aranda was not coaching at LSU in 2011 when we fielded the greatest defense in our history, imo. Nor was he in 2012 when we fielded a defense roughly as good as Aranda's LSU squad. What all of these teams had in common was a shite ton of talent - most notably a strong and deep defensive line.

Every season that we have that kind of talent - and at least good defensive coaching - we will field a great defense. The point is that although Aranda seems to be a very good coordinator, the difference between the 2016 defense and the three preceding ones was defensive line talent and depth, not coaching.

That would have been awful! Aranda does not seem to have the leadership qualities at this stage of his career, and there is a reason O has never been promoted to coordinator - because every head coach he's ever worked for didn't see any value in O in that role.

No, the coaches are in the right places. Let's see if it's a winning combination.

You think maybe you could put some info about your post actually in the subject line?

I think it takes a step in the other direction. I think Devin White will be better than either of the middles we had last year. This is a Patrick Peterson level superstar. The other middle will be weaker, but Arden Key will be better.

The defensive backs will be extremely good, but not quite what we had last year.

The defensive line will be much better this year. LaCouture and Godchaux are a wash, and Alexander and Lawrence will greatly improve over Godchaux and Neal. Plus we'll still have Godchaux taking 40% of the NG snaps.

I hope the NCAA isn't looking, because that might be a violation.

Alexander should start at NT. LaCouture or Herron start at one DE and Lawrence at the other.

Lots of depth on the DL this year and a good mix of experience. Four seniors and 3 second year players to split time between the three positions with maybe Shelvin also getting in at NT for a goaline/short yardage package is what I expect.

Last year Alexander and Lawrence were in the rotation as true freshmen... It will be massive to not have to rely on freshmen.

As many of the responses have already indicated, there are several levels to this years defense...

1) Lost a good deal of veteran talent. Not so easy to replace.

2) We have young talent but untested as heavy lifters in an SEC schedule.

3) Aranda's 2nd year as DC. Better overall understanding of concepts and expectations.

These are the 3 biggest factors in my thinking as to how our defense will look this next year.

I think our defense will be good at the very least. Not sure I can say I expect a great defense. Time will tell.

Not buying it. Sure, LSU thrives on talent. But there is a reason Aranda's defenses have been ranked top 5-10 every year he's been a DC.

The guy can flat out scheme.

I do look for the 2017 D to be slightly worse than last year, but thats still good enough to hold teams to a surmountable point total.

And i have crazy high hopes for D White. I think he's going to be a star THIS season. And when you have an Elite MLB, the whole defense will look pretty damn good.

How is it that according to our fans, offense didn't look good in the spring game AND the defense didn't look good in the spring game?

They played each other, one had to be better than the other. Or was the defense out of position, missing tackles, and blowing coverages while the offense tripped over their own feet, missed blocks, abd dropped wide open touchdowns?

Any person who brings up politics out of nowhere to insult another person completely lacks a personality. If you want to throw names around, at least try and stay on topic.
