If Hill/Mathieu Had Stayed

Was taking a break from writing a paper and watched the Jeremy Hill highlights.
For this question I'm only going to use Hill and Mathieu.
If Jeremy Hill and Tyrann Mathieu had not left early/got in trouble.. If they had stayed at LSU for all 4 years. Where do you think they would have ranked all time as Tigers?
LSU has had some amazingly gifted players the past couple years. Next couple classes look pretty special as well.
For this question I'm only going to use Hill and Mathieu.
If Jeremy Hill and Tyrann Mathieu had not left early/got in trouble.. If they had stayed at LSU for all 4 years. Where do you think they would have ranked all time as Tigers?

Hill would have been the best running back in LSU history if he stayed all four years.
He's the best running back since Faulk as is, playing two seasons. And he's probably a better true running back than Faulk was.

Hill has the potential to be a VERY good pro, IMO. He's my pick for the best LSU RB of the Miles era. Hard to say where he would be placed if he had stayed though.
If Mathieu had never gotten in trouble I honestly think we win a title in 2012 and he gets mentioned from then on as a Tiger legend.

They both may very well had been the best offensive and defensive players LSU's ever seen, assuming they both have the pro careers I think they'll have.
It's funny how quickly people forget just how tough of a break it was for Les to lose the badger before the 2012 season. He was a touchdown swing without question, and we lost all three games by less than a TD

Tyrann is easy. In the two years he played he accomplished more than nearly any defender I've ever seen in P&G. IMO only Dorsey and Peterson accomplished more (ETA: in recent history).
Had he played two more years he would have easily been the best defensive player in LSU history.
Hill is the best back that we've had in over a decade, but I think it probably stops there with him.

If you base the "best running back" off of stats I am not sure I would agree with this...
In Miles' world of running back by committee, some of those yards would have gone to other RB's..
And for the record, Faulk still holds the record for most all purpose yards of any RB in the SEC.

and yet Hill just had the second highest season yardage total in his only season as the #1 RB. while missing a game and a half. if Hill played 2 more yrs, stayed healthy, and still got a decent amt of carries, he'd have left as LSU's all time leading rusher. even with RBBC.

Although I still consider him a Tiger Legend. If he had been on the team in 2012 and we had won it all he would be immortal.

Hard to make assumptions at this point without seeing Fournette take a snap at the college level. Hill was a pretty special back.
It's amazing how much talent LSU has had the last couple years with guys like Patrick Peterson, Eric Reid, Tyrann Mathieu, Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham Jr, and Jarvis Landry. Just imagine where we'd be at today if guys like them had stayed all 4 years.
Guess we get to look forward to Tre'Devious White, Rashard Robinson, Travin Dural, John Diarse, Malachi Dupre, Trey Quinn, and Leonard Fournette... etc..

Hill- would be in the top tier of Tiger running backs overall, alongside Hilliard, Faulk, Cannon, and Alexander. Great company to be in. I'd already put him there, to be honest.
Mathieu- it's a real shame there will be the asterisk/stigma attached to his name. As a player ONLY, he has to go down as an all-time great here. A basketball analogy (college only) would be Mathieu= Chris Jackson; incredibly explosive playmaker who is on another level than anyone else on the field, each game. Seriously- you'd be surprised if he DIDN'T have at least one turnover or TD, in every single game.

Mathieu should have won the Heisman, it is as simple as that. To do what he did at the position he played, then to just play safety for a game because Reid got hurt and basically single-handedly win that game too. Guy was unreal. The quarterback-fricking media loved Luck and RG3and13, but no one put up the numbers Mathieu did per chance. Ball and TR3YPC certainly should not have been ahead of him.

People also forget that Saban wanted Hill badly he still stuck with LSU even though he had to sit out a year. I also think Miles sticking with him shows that miles has the players best interest in mind. Past players have seen that and future tigers see that also. I think that why miles/Frank Wilson are the recruiters they are.

I think players do take notice. These guys can recruit and it is just not as easy as people think. We have guys on our squad with bama offers, that saban wanted bad. So Something that those two are selling is winning recruits over that could go anywhere in the country.
Also these kids arent going to stay long anymore. Kids getting kicked off teams left and right, unprecedented jrs around the country leaving early. It will just get worse. The game has gotten so big that these guys are superstars in college, and high profile athletes have been getting in trouble since the beginning of sports.

Hill- gives Faulk a run for his money if he stays all four years. Even in the current running back by committee system.
Tyrann Mathieu- Heisman Finalist. Greatest of all time at the position and perhaps on that side of the ball.

Sports Illustrated put Tommy Casanova on the cover and called him "the nation's best player". He was a 3-time All-American in his 3 seasons. Let that sink in before we call TM7 the GOAT.
