a team kick a field goal in college ball after a first down with 1 sec to go I would like to hear when that was.

I cannot recall such a thing ever happening.

If the timeout had been called after the third down play there would have been plenty of time for the fieldgoal.

I cannot recall the exact game, but I know I have seen it before. It is rare and difficult. But, when we called timeout after 3rd down, they could have had the FG team ready to run on the field if we got the first. I tell you what too, the officials gave us a LOT of time to get set. If I were an Ole Miss fan I would have been pissed about how long it took to spot the ball ready for play.

Then call two fricking plays in case you pick up the first.

JJ wasn't even able to get the ball snapped before the clock ran out ... even if the FG team had gotten set, the game would have been over before the ball was snapped.

the real rub is when les let 17 seconds run off the clock after 3rd down...I don't think too many teams would get to run a play with 1 second left...

there is no doubt that the 17 seconds is the main issue, but at the end of the game what is done is done and you have to deal with what you got.

FWIW, it would not have mattered.

We never got a play off. THE SPIKE DID NOT HAPPEN. The clock expired before we snapped the ball.

IF Jefferson would have been under center, he MIGHT have had a chance to get the snap. But, he had his friggin back turned to the ball b/c he had no idea what to do.

It's possible to get the ball off.

The thing is, you actually have to be organized.

Incorrect. As soon as the ball is set the game is over.

Arguing over this is missing the forest through the trees. The fact is there was more than enough frickups prior to be pissed about. Please get off the spike the ball issue. As soon as we caught the ball the game was in effect, over.

edited: so I don't get called out over and over again. I was wrong and the link above proved it. Doesn't change the fact we should have never been in that position and that I feel is the bigger issue.

though difficult, it's possible to snap the ball when whistle blows to start clock. JJ wasn't under center when this happened due to confusion. But it could have happened if the players were ready.

Another blind homer post by JPL

If we were organized and set before the ball was marked ready to play you can get the play off, but nice try.

I think entirely too much attention has been placed on the last play or lack thereof. Not nearly enough attention has been called to the fact that Miles let 17 secs run off the clock, and the only explanation he offered for it was that he thought he already had called timeout, which makes absolutely no fricking sense whatsoever. Forget the last play...we weren't going to get another snap off no matter how organized we would have been.
