Honestly? I'd be perfectly happy to watch an LSU game in Tiger Stadium with far less than are currently there now, because far too many are there for no other reason than to scream and bitch at players and coaches... But the team plays better in a packed and loud house...so I'd prefer the place to be full for that reason alone.

But again...this is only the case for the real reason we get together on Saturdays. If I was on campus for the atmosphere outside the stadium moreso than the one inside it, I'd agree with you. I'm not, so I don't.

It really is amazing just how much the tailgating rules traffic procedures and price increases have destroyed a once great thing.

they really need to get their act together and remember what once made lsu the best gameday atmosphere in the country. lsu is on a slippery slope right now

I've been seeing the same thing. Doesn't compare to 4-5 years ago. All the new parking rules and regs have killed tailgating.

Such bullshite. That stadium was packed and loud during the game, and ready for a great game.

There was only one thing that killed the joy in the fanbase Saturday night: the performance of the team itself.

Here's the hilarious hypocrisy that no one points out.

People like the OP come in and bitch and moan that other fans are only here for the party, will leave early, and dont really care about football. Yet the reason they care is because they deem it to be negatively affecting the atmosphere and thus their overall enjoyment. Atmosphere, you know, that non football party shite. If you were a "true fan" you would enjoy watching LSU play Western Kentucky in an empty stadium for 4 hours, or so ive been told.

the pay to tailgate/park was the nail in the coffin for a lot of folks that just came to campus to party. With that costing upwards of 50-100 extra a game on top of tailgating expenses, not to mention the hassle of getting a pass. None of it seems worth it when you can stay home and watch it on a 60" flat screen and not have to lug a trailer/food/drinks/generator/tables/chairs/tents out there then pack it up and bring it home. I did it for many years. It's not worth it anymore.

I do

Personally I believe a true fan comes out when a team starts to struggle. If LSU has 4 or 5 loss year, true fans will come out and bandwagoners will leave.

I dont know where you were but I got to campus about a half hour behind you and I amost had to park on Stanford. I walked all the way across campus to the Vet school and the crowd was streaming in.

Had LSU punched it in the NEZ early when they had it first and goal inside the 5, the stadium was ready. Instead, we have one of the worst 4th down calls I can recall, and then promptly give up a 98 yard drive in like 5 plays and instead of being tied we're down 14.

That shite has nothing to do with whether or not the tailgating atmosphere was raucous enough.

There were a ton of people on N. Stadium Drive for the players and the band coming down the hill. I have only been to a few since I graduated high school. at LSU I was always in the stadium before the team walked down the hill, since I left LSU I can only go to a couple games a year. But that was the biggest crowd on N. Stadium drive I've seen in a while.

the lot behind the ag center was nearly empty and there was no traffic getting to it so I seriously doubt it filled up in half an hour.

One suggestion. STOP scheduling Little Sisters of the Poor opponents as the OOC.

even getting a field goal there would have helped.

The turning point of that game, was the goal line stand and the 97 yard drive. Our Defense was playing well up to that point, MSU got an early score, but than we came back and got a couple coverage sacks. Our defense had some momentum at that point. If we got it to 7-3 we would still have some of that momentum. I think there is a chance our defense would have stepped up and made a stop. We get the ball back maybe drive and score again even if 3 points.

Our defense was playing well to start that drive, than Dak hit a back shoulder throw in tight coverage and than our CB got a couple steps behind on a receiver and before we could even realize they went up 14-0. After that I think our defense lost all confidence. Yes we were overmatched yes Miss State would have moved it on us anyway. But that 97 yard drive completely changed that game.

Note: i think there is a good chance the Hunter Fumble return TD could have given us the lead if we kicked a field goal instead of going for it on 4th.

this was the best turn out of the year so far. I had a blast tailgating and there were a few extra people at ours that didnt come into town the first two games.

The stadium was packed, There may be another reason that lot wasn't as full. The back 9 filled up by 1pm. There were a ton of people on N. Stadium drive when the team and band came down the hill. Maybe it's not like the 2007-2009 or what ever, but lots of the traditions are still there and many fans still live those traditions.

BTW I don't know about you but I was impressed how they handled traffic after the game, I got out quickly. I'll be interested to see if 90,000+ stay till the end and how traffic is after that.

Disagree with the OP completely We had an awesome tailgate and so did the other 20 around us and the stadium was absolutely rocking throughout the game up until the end of the 3rd quarter and stayed loud until they scored the last touchdown making it 31 to 17 however if the score becomes 34 to 17 with 6 minutes left and Jennings cant even find the open receiver and takes a sack (Receivers were open all game) and the offense has been lackluster all game (that's putting it mildly) you are going to see people start to leave I love my tigers but to say a fans gotta stay through the end of a game like that to be a TRUE fan is ridiculous. I was at tiger stadium since 7 that morning if I want to leave because the product on the field is excruciating to watch while have a painful 4 hour drive home ahead of me I will and I owe no apology to you or anyone else. I have a feeling I am not alone in this sentiment.

I think a fans test for being loyal is not staying till the end of a blow out, rather when the team has a 4 or 5 loss year, do you keep coming back?

I stay till the end because I live 10 min from the stadium. If you live far away I understand completely wanting to leave a blow out early.
