No telling how good he could be if Les let him run the ball! It is good to play many backs but in big games he should feed LF. Only 6 carry's in the Gump game. 1 Loss.

Melvin Gordon had the 3rd most rushing yards in a single season and he wasn't a serious threat to win. We would need to be in the playoff for him to have a serious chance.

The only reason he didn't is because Mariota had a ridiculous statistical year.

3780 yards 68% 38 TDs 2 ints before the playoffs. In addition, he had 669 yards and 14 TDs at 5.7 ypc.

He was pretty near perfection in that Oregon system. Also you have to take in effect that he was on a national championship level team and they've been wanting to give him the award for two years now.

IMO Fournette will still need an insane stat line (at least 1900 rush yards and 20+ TDs in 13 games) but on a championship level team with possible wins against teams like Bama, UF, Auburn, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, TAMU and Mizzu in 2016, he has a hell of a chance to win it.

Doesn't really matter. There is a long list of guys who have been successful after heavy rushing loads

I hear you. And it doesn't really matter because Fournette clearly wants to win a Heisman. You don't make it to New York rushing 10 times a game. He'll, Jeremy Hill was the best back in the country in 2013 and didn't sniff the Heisman.

But all RBs have a limited number of carries on their legs. Could be the difference between a 10 year career and 15, depending on how he gets used and how many carries,

That said...

Then go away dumbass. Your name is "Hail To the Victors" and your favorite team on the board is "Stanford" yet you are posting on the LSU SPORTS BOARD.

Go away.

Does feeding him more at the expense of touches for everyone else translate into more wins? If not, then who cares about a Heisman?

If he gets it within the context of the LSU gameplan, then great. Otherwise who cares?

get your best player the ball as many times as you can against the teams that matter, in as many ways as you can.

hand it off, throw it to him, reverses, different formations, etc...

He has the medias attention for sure, but any RB is unlikely to win. I would think his YPC would have to be over 8 and rushing yards over 2000 to get there. If he takes a few passes the distance and 2/3 KOs then maybe the rushing yards could be a bit less than above.

He most definitely can win it... But he will get 12 carries a game so he will not

so he's going to carry the ball less than last year?

not gonna happen with our RB by committee style of play. however, once he hits the NFL he will be thankful he wasnt fed the ball 25+ times a game for 3 years in college

Not gonna happen. Melvin Gordon didn't even come in third and he was 6 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' record while missing one entire game and getting pulled at halftime twice.

ETA he also broke LT's single game record in 2 1/2 quarters

Melvin Gordon rushed for nearly 2600 yards and didn't win the Heisman.

Leonard could win it with lesser numbers if LSU makes it to the playoffs and he's the primary reason. Or he could just have a phenomenal season like Gordon and place but not win.

What would be really interesting is to have Fournette and Brandon Harris as 1-2 in the race. Of course, I am dreaming again--I might be awake when the recurring offensive nightmare happens again...

Man, you can't call the offense last year a nightmare and still be a tiger fan. It's fans like you that are ruining the football program. As a matter of fact, I am going to go ahead and say that if we do have a loss next year that you are solely responsible because of your negativity...

Fournette must have good quarterback play for this to happen.
