I think the ratio of the amount of discussion and emphasis placed on the Heisman to its actual value is very high. Remember that the award has no monetary value nor is it particularly predictive of professional success.

My hypothesis is that since sportswriters pick the winner, the invest they outcome with importance--sort of like Hall of Fame choices--another thing with no monetary value.

A sensible player should not give the Heisman a second thought. If you win it, say "thank you", but don't buy into the hype.

I wouldn't risk hurting his professional career for a Heisman trophy.

Hill averaged nearly 18.5 carries a game last year. Didn't hurt him at all. To get where we need to go, he'll need at least 18 per. No matter what, if we make it to the big game, you can bet your arse he will carry the ball between 260 and 280 times during the season.

We aren't creative enough offensively for him to put up the numbers he could put up to win it.

Cfb isnt about creativity. Its about execution. Oregon runs the same damn play 50% of the time. they just execute it.

Hill also left as a true sophomore who just so happened to be three years removed from high school.

Just sayin'

He's going to have a tough time competing against Nick Chubb and Ezekiel Elliot next season.

Honestly I don't want Fournette to win Heisman. Even though it's an honor, most of the recent winners don't live up to hype and it can be detrimental to a career (Manziel).

Doesn't matter if we feed him 50 times a game. We have no passing game to open up the run.

We'll have to see in the spring. With the seniors, Hilliard and Magee gone. I expect Fournette to take the bulk of the carries. Guice and Williams will share the relief.

Doesn't really matter. There is a long list of guys who have been successful after heavy rushing loads. LeSean McCoy for example, carried the ball nearly 600 times in two years before going pro. Le'veon Bell carried it 670 times, but 382 times his final year (to go along with 75 receptions). Demarco Murray carried it 760 times during his career (to go along with 157 receptions). Ray Rice carried it 910 times. Alfred Morris ran it 733 times, Matt Forte ran it 833 times, LT ran 943 times, Turner the burner ran 940 times, Marshall Faulk 760 times, Emmitt Smith 700 times, AP 748 times, etc, etc.

Doesn't matter as much as you guys think. Back to back 270 carry years would put him at 727. That's right in that same spot as these guys.

Melvin Gordon had the 3rd most rushing yards in a single season and he wasn't a serious threat to win. We would need to be in the playoff for him to have a serious chance.

This.

Fournette would have to have a Heisman moment or a few each and every game. Especially the big games. And LSU would have to be in contention for a championship.

He already has the media on his side. Just needs incredible stats and LSU to make a run.
However unlikely because it's usually a quarterback that wins. Look at the season Melvin Gordon had and he was a distance behind mariotta.

ESPN seems to have jumped on the LF bandwagon late in the year though. It looks like they are just itching to promote him.

Oh sure he'd have a chance.

But we also have to admit there's no reason to say he's any better than Chubb or Zeke or that Freshman at OU
