I have a 2013 Florida feeling about this Auburn game

I'll start off with the differences between 2013 and now.

In 2013, LSU started 5-1. They had scored 35 or more and just put up 59 on 340 yards passing at Starkville.

This year, LSU is coming off a conservative victory in Starkville.

Now for the similarities:

Florida had eked out a few victories and was ranked 17th. Their QB (Tyler Murphy), had looked shaky passing. Does this sound familiar?

So while our fanbase was thirsty for a bloodbath, the game plan was to bludgeon the Gators physically and force a quarterback with low self confidence to beat the defense. This was arguably the worst D since 08 for LSU and Florida was held to 6 points.

LSU ran the ball 39 times and threw just 17 with Mett.

There was a mixed reaction, some were thrilled to finally show up on defense. Others thought LSU could have put up 40 slinging it.

While the conservative game plan was shocking then, it is expected now. All the posters pointing to 2013 as the year the playbook opened up should remember that game as a sign that even a future NFL all star skill positioned team reverted to the ultra conservative against a seemingly overmatched opponent in Tiger Stadium.

I expect a similar type of game. You should too and save yourself the frustration when it is more of the same. It's what Les Miles does.

Good luck getting them to do that.

I see an Auburn team coming to Death Valley with their tail between their legs.

Put White on Duke, pressure on the QB who has thrown 5 picks, and a sieve at defense.

It should be a blowout.

But I'm not going to bitch if we win.

As far as personnel goes the 07 and 15 are a bit similar. I would actually give this team the edge on paper everywhere but maybe QB maybe dline.

However, I think Harris will be better then Flynn and key/Clark are as good as Jackson/RJF if not better. Lbers are better this year likely, secondary goes to 15. Oline is equal, receivers are equal with 15 having a better backfield.

That game in 2013 was also revenge for the 2012 Florida game where they punched LSU in the mouth and were more physical. That 2012 game was revenge for the 2011 beat down that LSU put on them.

2011 LSU beat down -> 2012 Florida revenge slugfest -> 2013 LSU pounded Florida after almost losing to Mississippi State

2013 LSU beat down -> 2014 Auburn revenge blowout -> 2015 LSU pounds Auburn after almost losing to Mississsippi State

I see it.

Weren't OBJ and Jarvis both banged up and less than 100% in the 2013 UF game? I know Jarvis was for sure, I remember he wasn't a lock to play that day.

And that 2013 UF defense was stacked, finished 8th overall in D and 3rd in Pass D. They were pegged as the best DB group in the nation with Purifoy, Hargreaves, Watkins, Poole, etc. Their offense, on the other hand, was very bad and they were starting Tyler Murphy for the first time as well. And it was a home game for us.

Why pass the ball a lot that game? Our 2 best WRs were not at their best and they were going against 1 of the best DB groups in the nation. And they had a 1st time starter at QB and we weren't worried about them scoring at all. By throwing it a lot that game, you risk UF making a big play on D with with their DBs. So we ran the ball a lot, controlled the clock, tired out that UF D and kept our D off the field and fresh. Because remember, our 2013 D was shaky and this was the week after UGA scored at will on us. It was 14-3 at half and UF really never threatened to make a push in that game.

There are games where you can criticize the offensive play calling or strategy, no doubt, but I understand why we stuck with the ground and pound vs UF in 2013.

It's possible. Auburn-LSU games never go the way people think they will. Just win the game!

agree with this

I think the fan base and the nation right now has no idea how good this LSU team will be - after Saturday the cat is out of the bag

Rewatch the game. Guys were wide open all day. I remember a TE streaking down the middle of the field with nobody near him, and I can't remember if Mett missed him or he was focused on another WR. Mett was off in that game, but the pass catchers were there.
