I don’t think the 2-pt try was JUST “cajones.”

I think it was a calculated decision, which I like much better, and think it bodes well for this team moving forward.

Listening to Coach’s response at the press conference when the guy asked about “cajones,” I was impressed with how much thought went into the decision, and quickly.

EDITED to clarify: I should've said "JUST cojones." Of course it took guts. My point was that it wasn't only guts, but it was a calculated decision.

No matter what his reasoning was, the call was ballsy as hell. Call it whatever you want

Yeah, it was. I should’ve said it wasn’t “just cajones.”

100%. Even a calculated risk still takes a sack.

Let’s face it, bad throw, dropped pass. Hell bad snap. All on Kelly. Not the player.

Then you’re an idiot. It was HUGE cajones.

The safe call was kick EP and play 2nd OT. Coach never needs to explain that to a rabid fan base. But miss 2 point conversion? You will be 2nd guessed for eternity.

It was the right decision regardless of outcome.

We would have had to go right back out on offense and if we have to kick a FG then a TD beats us. If we score a TD again then they then have 4 downs and the refs frickery to answer. Then it goes to a 3rd OT and both teams have to start going for 2. I rather go for the win right there than have to play through all of that.

It was a good time to do it

We were about to take the ball first for the second OT which puts you at a slight disadvantage

I agree, it was made with the entire shot at the SEC Championship on the line. He nutted up and took his shot regardless of his thought process. That was super gutsy call.

I definitely think going for two was a necessity. Do not give the refs another opportunity to put their own stink on the end and gift it to them like we've seen happen so many times before.

^^^^^That^^^^^

It was Coach Kelly understanding that the game officials and replay crew were going to keep lawyering Alabama into the endzone as many times as it took. It was his only way to take that away from them.

It took balls to call it, but the probability was better going for two than kicking a pat.

yea considering everyone has to go for 2 on the next series t wasn't as ballsy as the media is portraying

it would have been more ballsy to not go for 2 truth be told

I agree...it was calculated while sitting on two big cajones. I think he made the deceision when he kneeled with 21 seconds and 2 timeouts. It was the point at which Saban was outmanuvered...hell a timeout was not long enough to count their own players on the field...Legendary!

After living through the fumble recovery give-back and the "pass interference"/tipped ball referee decisions, going for two looks safer than going for one

I agree. And I was screaming at the TV for Kelly to go for 2 vs. Florida St in the opening game.

If you ask any coach before any game that if he were given one play, from the 2 yard line to win the game would he take it? The answer would almost always be yes. Why give the ball back to your opponent to allow him the chance to win?

For Kelly was it a huge risk? Not really. The expectations for this season have never been high. He was in no danger whatsoever of being fired it he lost. LSU was not really in a spot where a missed conversion would end "playoff hopes" the fan base never really had in the first place. He was playing with house money.

You want to talk about balls. Tom Osborne's decision to go for 2 in the 1984 Orange Bowl (following the conclusion of the 1983 season) is the gold standard. A tie would have likely given Nebraska the national championship (or at least a share of it). Instead, he went for the win, undefeated season, and undisputed NC. THAT took huge "cajones"

Coach had it right. 1 play to win or lose against Bama, you take that 100 times out of 100, especially a 2-point try.

I saw it as Kelly realizing he was playing against the officials. To continue trying to score back and forth with Bama opened you up to special calls in favor of Bama for the win. Best to try and cut the head off immediately and let the cards fall where they may.

Now the game is no longer in Birmingham's hands.

I also think he had confidence in his team.

Oh and BTW, The SEC can eat a bag of Richards.

It was actually insane.

Had it failed, every last one of you would be calling for Kelly's head today.

But congrats, Coach Kelly. Great home overtime win over a decent Bama team.

Your successor just had a bigger win, in his 10th game as a head coach, than you've had in your entire career. Yes, your Irish defeated #3 Clemson (in overtime) 2 years ago, but if memory serves, Trevor Lawrence was out that game along with 3 defensive starters, and when you played them again 6 weeks later, Clemson squished you like a bug, 34-10.

Oh, and you're still a douchenozzle.
