bama will get to the qb quickly and often if that is the style we play. I hope our scheme to start off the game is designed quick passes like 5 yards slants and screens to get the ball moving and the defense on their heels. that set with guice and fournette seemed super effective.

What really nips PA in the bud is Bamas intense defensive discipline. When the safeties and LBs don't bite, it will cause keep the coverages in place.

Keeping gump DBs in the backfield will leave openings for our running backs. Stack the box, we pass.

They don't and have minimally in the past stacked the box. Bama defends LSUs run attack with 7 in the box.

Btw, whos he down voting monkey dick?

Charles, they run blitzed almost every play last year, and dared Brandon to beat them with his arm. They knew he couldn't. You keep acting like bamas d last year and this year is the same. They have given up 43 and 30 points so far in games. We finally have coaching AND the players to exploit their weaknesses. This is going to be fun. No more running into the run blitz.

Do you think they showed this intense discipline while giving up 43 to ole miss, or 30 to Arkansas? Or do they just not have the talent.? I realize you worship saban, and would drop on the 50 yard line and give him a bj in front of a record crowd...but come on man.

Don't think Saban will stack the box he hasn't in years past his defensive front is good enough to not have to except for maybe a few plays here or there

I think you're right.... difference is I think their DBs/LBs are their weakness (not major, just not as good as in the past). If they do the run blitzes it's going to leave people open. Etling is going to have to find where they are blitzing from and hit that guy (hot route) or hit the one on one deep. If he makes those throws better than 50% of the time they will back off on the blitzing.
Widen the splits and let the horse run.

Play action is always a huge part of LSU's offense. They have been lining up in the shotgun a bunch anyway so it's not like they are just going I-form or single back sets all night long.

Many people see Bama's D as being something that it is not. I like our D better... and our offense. It's amazing how much they've improved.

If LSU can't run the ball then play action won't matter at all.

I concur. TE's will have to be instrumental in beating Bama this year. We'll have to do what they did to us in round 2 of the infamous 2011/12 season. If we get the TE's involved early and successfully, the run will help open up the PA pass

This, Bama crashed down on the run and did not live with 9 in the box like a lot of people on here seem to think.

DE seems to be very comfortable adjusting at the LOS to what the D is giving them. He appears to be in full command of the OFF/system. This will be crucial as we assess, and react to the Bama D.

We'll need to work the TE and short passes to WR to loosen them up, back them off the LOS and keep them from just running upfield. Anyone notice on the Chalk TD pass, the S immediately bit on D. Smith pass route? The use of the TE is making this OFF much more flexible and lethal. We can do this, but it will ALL start up front IMO with the OL. They need to give DE a little bit of time, and provide a crease, just a crease, to LF/Guice.

I can see screen passes being effective against that determined rush though. I don't think we given enough film to Bama to prepare.

We will need to establish the run for Play action to be effective, which just might happen since we are not one dimensional anymore.

Regardless, I am sure the creative juices are flowing on offense and the game plan will be something we do not loathe.

should not even use play action. Either quick passes from shotgun or roll out passes. Put LF in slot alot.
you will have to pass first before you can run. You will have to either roll qb out to buy time our throw quick slants and deep passes that leave the hand early.

We are not going to buy time with play action. First they are not afraid of our running game and second they do not think the qb will have time to throw. Play action will just use up a valuable 1/2 second.

Going to need to roll the pocket/hit some quick shots to TE/RBs. Bama will play a lot of press-man early pressure DE. Gonna need to scheme to protect him. Can't give up the kind of pressure we gave up vs Ole Miss.

That said, if we can chip away at shallow gaps early, I think it will force the DBs to give a little cushion/force a LB to cheat back a step, thinking pass.

If so, that will open a few running lanes for LF/Guice.

Regardless, you gotta think CEO and CSE are drawing something up. They both know winning this one could very well mean they keep their jobs.

They have to respect the play action. If not LF will be in their wheelhouse in a second. That second they bite on play action will give our receivers time to get open. We just have to make the plays.

Rarely are you going to beat Bama by just lining up and going at them. You have to make them stay honest and play action does that. We have to keep their safeties off the LOS and make then respect the pass.

No offense to the chalk board crowd, but this is LSU - Bama. Just as in years past, it will come down to the kicking game and mistakes. The winning points will come from a short field via the kicking game and the winner will have two mistakes, the loser three.
