How were the kickers "coached" before this year?

There's nothing in Peveto or McGaughey's background that indicates they have any kicking expertise. Both had extensive Special Teams history, but not actually place-kicking or punting. Did they interact with the kickers and impart knowledge or tips they had picked up along the way? Did Les bring in somebody like Chris Sailer as a consultant to work on the mechanics with the kickers?
Not having a Special Teams coach is inexcusable to me, but I'm just curious what the direct effect is on the kickers themselves. I know that most of the college kids travel around the country to special camps for training, that's where Delahoussaye was coming back from when his car accident happened last year.

McGaughey was a ST Coordinator in the NFL before coming the LSU
I think it helps to just have someone in these kids ear that they know.
Kicking is a mental thing.

quote:So is free throw shooting. While there are general rules to follow like repetition, keeping the motion simple, etc, every kicker already knows them in high school.

Special teams coaches rarely actually coach kicking, they usually have personal kicking coaches for that. ST coaches mainly focus on kick coverage and blocking protection.
