I still believe that LSU's defensive numbers will be good, but this might hurt us a little bit with our rushing defense. At the same time i like our depth at the position so it might not even be something to worry about.

Great thread! I can't believe this hasn't been discussed yet.

We'll find out in 2 days.
Herron and Gilmore's progress, or the lack of, will determine the impact.

Honestly I don't think there's really a drop off as far as talent. Experience is what possibly could be the biggest factor in that situation when it comes November.

I don't believe it will hurt us at all in the run game. He was not a strong run stopper. He was moved to de bcs be couldn't create push upfront.

Dude is a leader and a smart guy..A solid vet who I'm sure had a calming effect on some of the younger guys. He will be missed.

A lot, not only was he a talented player, but a leader. Something that this team has needed badly for the past few seasons.

Well, no doubt that's why he was moved. He's just not a nose guard. But he was one of our top three linemen, so there is definitely a drop off. And he was an excellent run stopper.

Herron and Gilmore are fine, but don't forget that they came to LSU as part of the same class as LaCouture, and three defensive coordinators thought LaCouture was better than them.

If Valentine is what they say he is that takes the sting out of it. We have fair depth right now with Gilmore, Valentine, Herron, Neal, Godchaux. If Lawrence can be relied on it goes from fair to good. But if we still had Lac it's great.

This will hurt because TV was supposed to be a super sub playing limited snaps not a primary role in the defensive line. TV would have had a greater impact in a limited role.
