It's going to happen in college and in the NFL sooner or later. I do wonder where football will be years down the road.

People will still watch football without kickoffs. It will be weird at first but are you really going to stop watching because they took one play out of the game?

ETA: Not even removing a play. Removing a type of play. You will just get to see one more play from scrimmage over a kickoff.

no just kickoffs

realistically its the collision with 30 yards with a head of steam that they want to eliminate.

There is so much more going on in a punt that sorta makes the chances of that happening less.

Or they can just have BDP coach all the teams on kick off and the chances of a tackle will disappear.

I think it is something that is going to have to happen for sustainability of the sport. The head issues that have already been ignored already put the sport and a tremendous danger.

Yeah no way they could do away with punts that would never work out. Kick offs are violent no doubt about it and more so for the return team. Would be weird at first but we would settle into it.

Greg Schiano's idea is after a touchdown or field goal you give the team that scored a 4th and 15 from the 30. You can punt it or go for it to maintain possession. I like that idea. Easier to complete a 15 yard play than an onside kick.

They're gonna end up ruining college football like they did college baseball

Sometimes things get "too good or "too entertaining." That's when the NCAA springs into action.

Give them straw for bats. Move the kickoff up. Have a targeting foul that can eject a player automatically without recourse. Run the clock during kickoffs because games take too long, but don't do anything about the endless horseshite Pitbull ads that make the games take forever. Blow plays dead when a helmet comes off and penalize the player for continuing to participate. Don't let the college football player ski professionally, but let the pro baseball player come back and play football. No more hookers at basketball recruitment parties. One and done.

In my opinion it's a lot easier to complete a 15 yard play than it is to successfully complete an onside kick. So I don't really like that idea, at least with those specifics.

This reason alone should absolutely null and void even the thought of getting rid of kickoffs. If they want to help it out IMO, move it up another 5 yards, or give teams the 30 yard line on touchbacks.

Eta: or both.

So if you're punting from your own 1, you get to pin them on the 25?

if they are down by 20 or more they get 5 plays to make a first. they can use it once in each drive.

I wish they would get rid of kickoffs but they never will because they would lose a ton of commercials

Terrible idea. Realisticly, how many serious injuries occur from kickoffs vs. just playing in a normal game situation.

This is stupid. Just a bad idea.
