How horrible would removing kickoffs be?

Dont feel like discussing this on the rant, but really.

One of my favorite things to hear on saturdays is " we are two minutes to kickoff in Baton Rouge!".

Theyd be taking away a staple of the sport. From kickoff chants to amazing plays.

TM7s abilities on returns ultimately would have gone unnoticed.

Such crap. LINK /

I hear the premise of your argument, but did TM7 even return kicks?

They're gonna end up ruining college football like they did college baseball

It's going to feel like a scrimmage until we finally get used to it.

Punt returns would be gone as well would they not?

Id imagine the other team would start on the 25.

Probably be good for LSU. Our kick coverage hasn't been great in awhile

It would definitely take out a fun part of the game. It's one of those things that can swing momentum real quick, and it's always awesome to see your team house one.

I guess a positive is that there would be less commercial breaks. After every touchdown or field goal, commercial break. Then they show you the kickoff only to be followed by a another commercial break. CBS specifically is the worst. I know ESPN will let the offense take the field immediately after a kickoff every so often, but they do this shite too. Remember when they had the clock start on the kick instead of when the returner catches it or comes out of the endzone with the ball? Lol like that was the reason games were taking so long...

I doubt they would remove punts. Not agreeing with it at all but I can see how removing kickoffs are a way to add to player safety without changing the outcome very much. Most of the time teams end up around the 20-30 yard line anyway. Punting is a different story. You are talking about a field position tool in a field position game. It is easy to say start at the 25 after a touchdown but what about for a punt. Just move the ball 30-40 yards down the field? What about trying to pin a team deep? Just a lot more technicalities in punting than a kickoff.

For all intensive purposes, it would be a blessing in the skies for us.

Why not just play 2 hand touch?

This kind of stuff is too good and has too much of an impact on the game.

Can't imagine not ever getting to see something like this again:

I love kick and punt returns just like everyone else. There's an excitement and anticipation to them.

But we all need to be realistic. The game is changing, and will continue to change, for safety. And I'm not completely opposed to that.

Players today are MUCH bigger, stronger, and faster than decades ago. The collisions are much more severe, and we're seeing the effects. It's not propaganda - it's real.

You don't have to be a pansy to see that the game needs to be tweaked a bit. I'm still for hard hits. But safety is going to be an ever-increasing concern in the coming years. So might as well emotionally prepare for it.
