There's been a lot of comparisons of Walker to his dad, oh he might even be better ect. As someone who enrolled in 05 I was curious and these are the first highlights to come up when I entered "Jamie Howard LSU highlights" in youtube. Jamie Howard Highlights. So how good was this guy, would he even be able to start at an elite program like LSU is now?

He had a very strong arm. Hard to judge him with the clownshown that was the coaching staff his first three years. Played well his Sr. year under Dinardo and Morris Watts. Also played baseball during the summer for the Braves which probably didn't help his development. He was a talented guy.

I remember him coming on hot against auburn.

But the most memorable thing was his 94 AU burn game.

You would have smashed every golf club on a woodpile like my friend’s dad did.

He calmly walked out to the garage, grabbed his bag, the put it back, grabbed his wife’s clubs…. Destroyed every club, thoughtfully and felt much better afterward.

I'm the same age as Jamie and was at LSU the same time. We were dogshit back then. So it's kind of hard to get a baseline for how good he actually was.

The closest comparison I can think of to a QB at LSU who came after him would be Jarrett Lee.

If anyone ever called Jamie Howard an lsu legend they are completely insane. I would stay away from them

Yeah, I need to see some links to anyone who even implied such a thing.

I would hope Walker is better but like a lot of posters have said in other threads Jamie had a good arm but lacked decision making skills in a major way. A lot of rumors were coming out of the program at that time that JH had trouble academically as well. Basically a really good HS QB that couldn’t produce at the next level.

IMHO....on par w Josh Booty.

a hair better than D. Etling and J. Lee, not as good as Mauck, Flynn, Mettenburger

I was a young teenager for the famous Auburn game and remember all my Dad's buddies being so pissed off!

But like other said, LSU was a shite show, so hard to accurately tell how good he was or could have been.

Definitely not as good as Ettling. More like Booty and J Lee, had the skill set to be a good QB but made way to many poor decisions.

He was the first to leave the field after practice.
He was of average football smartness.

Very good arm. Showed promise vs UF in '92 as a true Fr. Was part of a QB carousel in '93 with Loup and others. With Curley it was a clown show.

IMO, he became shell-shocked (being nice). Agree with the poster above that he most resembled Jarrett Lee. And I think that experience was a major driver with his son. He wanted his son to be able to follow a track conducive to his development, not have to play program savior before he was ready.

To his credit he somewhat redeemed himself after the Auburn debacle when we beat Auburn in '95. That was a nice win.
