How did Brandon Harris and the LSU offense regress so much from last year?

Most of the other SEC fans on the secr predicted LSU to be the exact same as last year and even some of our own fans did but I don't think anyone thought we'd be worse. Having all that talent back I just don't understand. I get we've moved on but It still bugs me. It's like we didn't practice at all

Every QB under Les regressed as time passed.
Jordan Jefferson actually played good his freshman year then regressed.
Harris regressed.
Lee actually got better but he was benched.

Predictability? LF7 going on perpetual suicide missions running into boxes with as many as 9-10 defenders (as opposed to the usual 8-9), BH only being able to throw the deep ball and still unable to read defenses. DE not being able to throw the deep ball yet is still being asked to do so. In short, it seemed we chose to play to our own weaknesses. It was very frustrating and not very successful in spite of shitloads of talent.

Good post. Its frustrating that people sitting at home with limited football knowledge would know exactly what LSU was going to run without doing any film study. Just the same old sorry arse shite every week

I don't think Harris regressed. To me, he didn't improve. He is good athlete, but didn't have QB instincts. He is not accurate on short throws, something this offense requires to be successful. Etling may or may not be the guy, but he has shown he can hit different targets.
Why didn't we see the same style offense against Auburn as we did against Miss. St?

Teuhema missed most of fall camp, Clapp has been in a boot all season, Pocic and Weathersby couldn't even practice yesterday.

One of the mysteries of the universe. We've got Etling out there putting up the same numbers that Harris did last year, but we've regressed to the point that he's considered an upgrade.
There was a time in 2008-2010 where we thought we were seeing the worst passing offense of all time. Little did we know that 2009 season from Jefferson would turn out to be the 2nd best full season for an LSU QB from 2007-2016. It's so pitiful it's funny.

I agree with everything but this. DE has put the ball downfield very nicely all but one time where it almost got picked off but hit the ground. Charks TD pass was beautiful. He would have had a few more deep thrown catches had his WRs (Dupre, Chark) laid out for them or gone up and gotten them.
My biggest complaint about Miles is taking guys that he thinks can learn a new system and forcing them into that system. Some guys just never get use to it. we need to be able to adapt to those sorts of recruits. In all honesty, I hope for BH's sake, he sticks around if we get a stud hire HC and then we'll have a real QB battle next year. Could be really good at that position if we get the right guys in here.

I would not say they suck. We have real talent there. But with all of the injuries and players playing out of position they have had a difficult time playing to expectations. Hopefully, they can get healthy and turn that around.

Bama gave every team the blue print to beat us last year. Other teams adjusted while we didn't. Can Cameron in an interview from last spring said they worked on running game 70% vs 30% on passing.
It's tough for Qb's to develope when they hand off 70% of the time in practice.

Mett improved dramatically too.

You contradict yourself in your own post. Neglect to mention Mett getting better from Junior to Senior year am Jamarcus Russell's stats improving every year under Les.

Complete revisionist history. JJ's freshman year was his worst statistically (under 50 % completion rate), Spphmore and senior seasons he had over 60% completetion rate and over 56 in his junior year.

They've (Every SEC Team) always had the blueprint to beat us

I think we know now that les had them not watching film and he ran the kids into the ground

Its this guys. And bad playcalling. Like calling a PA pass on 3rd and 25.
We weren't fooling anyone.

He is not accurate on short throws
The Wisky interception and the 10-yard out routes he catapulted into the stands against JSU were glaring examples of this.
It's mind-blowing that he is more accurate on 40-50 yard bombs (see 2015 Florida game) than anything else.

things are gonna change with Coach O. just you watch. He's gonna have them boys ready to play!!

I agree our offense regressed under BH. I also think that we didn't change anything on offense. The defenses knew what we were going to run before we did. It makes it hard to progress in that situation.
