We're short on talent and depth this year, no doubt. That 2000-01 team you're talking about was actually a little better off than this team. Ronald Dupree, Lamont Roland, Bridgewater, Torris Bright, Beshera, and Jermaine Williams and a young Collis Temple, that's actually more than we have to work with this year.

Just from watching the team the last two years, I think Johnson's a better basketball guy than Brady but this team is really thin at the depth wise at the 3,4, and 5 positions. Other than Warren, even the starters on the front line are not physically imposing so we can't really thrive with an inside game, and on top of that, we don't really have a go to scorer who can create his own shot to bail us out of bad plays, or keep us in games etc. Just getting baskets is an ordeal for this team.

We're just thin talent and numbers-wise this year. I totally expected this kind of team this year so I'm not as dissappointed as some. From what I"ve seen the last two seasons, I really think Johnson's a better basketball guy than Brady. If he can recruit faily well, I'd say there's a good chance we'll have some decent years in the near future. We have a couple of nice players coming in next year but we'll need to put together a string of decent years recruiting wise to get the thing going.

I wish we had that big guy with some bulk down low that we could run our offense through like trent did at stanford. i dunno if white is that type of guy

i think storm might have a better post up game than white but white is the guy storm needs to go with him down there and take on bigger guys. white is a pretty good athlete too, we've been lacking athleticism down there really since randolph and CJ were playing together two seasons ago.

yes, Warren is our best inside player, and he's only 6-7, and we constantly have to watch his fouls because we have nothing after him. Taz is a nice player too but not the big guy you need at the 4 or 5 position

if White or Warren are/can become good at passing it out of the post and finding an open guy, that would be huge. Of course, we have to have threats to score somewhere.

Yeah, that's why I say, just getting buckets is an ordeal for this team.

how sure are we that this will work long time?

Not anymore sure than I have been for any LSU hire...ever.

No one ever knows bout these things, but Johnson seems to be a capable coach who took a talented team last year and got just bout everything he could out of it considering our post season match ups.

There has always been HS talent in La and the states close by. I believe it will all depend, long run, on how good he is at keeping the talent home. LSU has missed/lost on some very good HS players in the last 5 yrs or so.

I think we will be good in a few years, but this year and maybe next will be tough unless a light bulb is flipped on by some of the guys some how.

One thing that isn't brought up much, although I bring it up as often as I can, is that Trent Johnson's first three full recruiting classes (2009, 2010, 2011) have seen probably the worst talent level in Louisiana that I can remember. Without doing some research, I will go out on a limb and say that it is the worst three-year stretch in at least 15 years, maybe longer.

Between Greg Monroe in 2008 (prior to TJ's hiring) and the uber-talented class of 2012, I believe Matt Derenbecker is the best player from Louisiana in that period. Matt's a good player, but you're talking about a state that has produced Monroe, Big Baby, Stromile, Brandon Bass, Tyrus Thomas, D.J. Augustine, etc., all in the last 10 years or so.

I'm going to start a thread on the recruiting board to discuss this topic further.

Agreed. This guy is the real deal.

LSU has traditionally had trouble recruiting New Orleans. Way back in my playing days, there was the pipeline running to Georgetown, that included Dwayne Bryant and Jaren Jackson.

I think TJ gives us a real shot at truly locking down the state for the first time in the history of LSU basketball. He has the skins on the NBA wall, with the Lopez twins and Marcus Thornton. So, kids will believe that he can get them to the next level. Plus, based on what I have seen, IMHO, he is at least an above average in game coach. I like our chances with this guy.

I agree.

I have been to the Top 28 for a number of years and the last 2-3 I have noted an overall talent drop. I know the Top 28 is not a perfect measuring stick cause not all the talented players make it to that level, but I believe it's an indication that a talent drop has occurred.

I've seen Matt play a few games and I think he has the potential to be an outstanding college player.

Where the LSU team needs vast improvement and I feel it's been needed for a longggggg time is in the G play.
