How Big Has The Adjustment to Stand Up Rasco Been?

Along with the insertion of Beckwith and the emergence of Adams, I feel like this move has been huge in the evolution of the defense the last few weeks.

Rasco had been a solid if unspectacular contributor for 3+ years, but starting with the Florida game he has been a true playmaker with his hybrid role putting both his hand on the ground and playing a little stand up OLB.

It seems to me that adding this wrinkle has given the opposing offenses a lot more to think about and diagnose pre-snap.

He is playing better. I only remember one play against Ole Miss where he got too far up the field on his rush. Other than that, he has been solid the last few weeks.

I'm always watching him because of the big shoes he has to fill. Sat was his best game.

Without him going all the way around the line and pulling Wallace backwards, they probably get the first down on 4th and 1.

Wait, you mean he's not perfect?

He's moving faster and taking better angles

3 good games in a row for him. He and DH are both staying home better on the screens and swing plays, enabling them to get outside and help on the wide stuff.

Our entire D line has really stepped up the last 3 weeks.

The rotation on the D line is a lot better. I was at the game Saturday, but rewatched on TV, and you could see the rotations kept the players fresh.

He actually made the decisive hit on Wallace on that 4th and I and what was funny is that he wasn't even ready when the ball was snapped!

I noticed especially that Clark and Teuhama were both playing on the final OM drive. Talk about trust in some freshmen.

He also has had shoulder surgery. But I guess no one thinks that could be a reason why it has taken him a while to emerge. I think this is his first season being healthy, not even sure if he was 100% to start the year.

Nor was he blocked. Amazing how fans judge players on the silliest things - a back runs through a 10 foot wide hole, and fans think that makes him a great back.

Tehuma (sp?) sacked a QB earlier this year on a play in which he was completely unblocked. And this board was in a tizzy.

Rasco has played well all year, actually, but his performance on that 4th and 1 was a negative not a positive. He was not ready, and he should have been. Had they run a power play at Rasco they'd have converted.

that isn't really something that's new, it's just been a bit more frequent lately and more noticeable because he's making plays. there's a few more wrinkles to the defense than ppl give Chavis credit for.

as someone posted already, this is supposedly the healthiest Rasco's been since he was in HS. both his shoulders have been bad.

I think earlier the DEs were having to compensate for the DTs to some extent plus the MLB. Now with the emergence of those positions, they look more formidable across the front.

Glad you brought this up.

He has played really well this year. And he played a fantastic game against Ole Miss.

And remember how down everybody was on the team about 3 weeks ago. Several posts on here were complaining about Chavis.
Things are clicking now and both lines are well improved. The Defense was a MAJOR factor in the Ole Miss win. Rasco and Hunter standing up is giving the O fits. Our D is evolving into a well oiled mean as hell UNIT, and it couldn't be coming at a better time (well, it could have ).
I hope we can keep up the intensity!
