If you can't make it in the top 4, stop whining...that's all. IMO, win your conference..especially the SEC and you are in. It's not so bad!

I agree with the 6 team theory, because that way the top two teams could get a bye. However, I don't know about just top conference champs. The best solution is continue to use BCs rankings and just sees them accordingly. All this selection committee stuff is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't think many peoples problem was the BCs itself, it was that it only gave two teams a chance to play in a meaningful postseason play.

Not sure I agree with the people not having a problem with the BCS statement.

Fundamentally the Goal of the BCS is to put the "best" teams into the championship game. In doing this I feel as though it inherently diminishes the Conference Championship games and therefore by extension the regular season.

However, I also feel as though there are teams that have an argument in an multi-team playoff type of format that did not win their conference. This is where the NFL playoff system does a good job of addressing this.

At the end of the day, the "best team" argument is flawed because at the end of the day you are the team your record says you are. We have over the years seen many teams with better records not win the "Championship" game.

I like the prospect of finally having the chance at a undisputable national champion settled on the football field. My ideal scenario would be 16 teams, but I think I can hang with 8.

However, I am for ALL teams having an equal opportunity to get the crystal ball. Do you think that going from the BCS to a selection committee would diminish the chances of teams like Boise, TCU, or Utah from getting into the national championship game?

I think this is the biggest problem to deal with in the new system. 4 team playoff with selection committee... I wouldn't want to be on that committee if it's not anonymous. Just think... you get your name listed as the guy who picks between, say, Alabama 2011 season (strong year, strong conference, doesn't even make conference title game), and an undefeated Boise St team that screams "just give us the chance". Either way, you get blasted publicly.

BTW, I list Boise cuz TCU got into the Big 12 and Utah is in the Pac whatever... I think, at least. Getting hard to keep up

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing (about some of the successful non-BCS schools having joined major conferences).

At any rate, we are going to have to have more than 4 teams in the playoff system to avoid controversy.

I have always favored a 6 team playoff with seeds 1 and 2 getting a bye. Reward a possible undefeated team or in a pool of one loss teams a SEC conference winner. Would be able to use all 4 major bowls then as well and then add a championship game site to a new location such as Dallas or even New York.

How about a 110 team fricking playoff? Everyone will get a ribbon and go out for ice cream sundaes after the games. You fricking pussies. You ruined the last remaining good thing in college sports. We didn't need a fricking playoff. Now we can have more bitching about what 9-3 team deserves to be in the playoffs. Great. fricking great.

I dont know when, but I think NFL style playoffs are in the future where there will be 2 divisions made up of conferences, and teams play their way through the playoff. What will make it more likely is the conference expansions to 16+ teams, leading to 4 or so mega conferences

4 Conf. Champions - selected by the committee. Doesn't matter which conf.'s, just the top 4. Then 2 at-large teams selected by the committee.

This was what I wanted to happen, everybody is happy in this scenario. My only change was that the two at large teams had to play each other as the #4 & #5 teams int he first week. This way it is not a requirement to win your Conference, but it is a big advantage.
Also if the two at large teams were conference champions as well that is OK

If you are number 5 or 6 in the BCS, you dont really have any room to argue that you should be playing for a national championship.

Four teams doesn't really solve anything. They might as well go straight to 16 teams. Reward the higher seeds with a home game.

This way you can include the 10 to 12 teams that belong, and a few champions from small conferences.

I like the bowl system.

BUT

If we have to have playoff, 4-team for as long as possible then 6-team as the next step.

NO ONE cares about the 16-team division two playoffs. I hope we don't get to that many teams in my lifetime.

really???

In 2008, Boise st was at #9, 13-0, Utah was at #7 at 13-0. Final Four that year would have been Fla, 12-1, OK, 12-1, Tx, 11-1 and Bama 12-1. Dont forget Bama played FL in the SECCG in Dec. that same Bama team got the sht kicked out of them by the undeserving Utes in the Sugar Bowl

you must be talking about the regular season, yeah ask all those undefeated teams how important the regular season it. I bet you love watching reruns of our La-monroe, App St, McNeese, etc...
