that will kill the regular season which is what needs to be preserved in college football. If you want a large play off, watch college basketball or 8-16 teams watch the NFL. We shouldn't make college football what it isnt when we already have big post seasons available to enjoy.

you are aware the odds of you making the PO or how well you perform is directly tied to how well you perform in the regular season?

I've said it before and I will say it again, regardless of whether you are talking about a 4, 6 or 8 team playoff, (or the current system...) if you don't win your conference you do not belong in the playoff.

The two top teams were selected. There IS no other criteria.

And to the OP...now that we have a playoff money will drive it to expand. Sure there will always be controversy over who gets the last spot, but arguing over who is #8/9 is superior to arguing over who is #2/3.

My solution:
16 team playoff
8 conf champs
8 at large using BCS formula
Conf champs get first game at home
Next 6 games go to biggest bowls
Final is national champ game highest bidder

If you didn't make the top 16...you still get to go to the poulan weed eater bowl...nobody cares about those bowls now, adding a playoff system won't decrease bowl interest because it's already really low, just look at those crowds now, or lack thereof..,

I am so sick of the reducing the importance of the regular season as it relates to a playoff...
That importance only applies to a very small minority if the teams playing...how does the playoff system decrease the importance of a 2 loss teams' game...if anything it increases the importance because they have something bigger to play for...

The genius of the decided upon 4 team playoff is in using the regular season as elimination rounds. With 4 teams in a playoff no one team is having to play more games than at present. By stressing conference champions the 8-16 team playoff format is replaced by each conference's method of determining a champion. The regular season games become crucial, more important even than before. Stated another way, in a 4 team playoff system Alabama would have been eliminated on Nov 5th. I don't believe they would have been selected for a 4 team playoff.

My 6 team playoff would be a very interesting one.
