I mean no disrespect, but what exactly do you consider a gimmick offense?

One which is not widely run?

There are many benefits to running something "out of the ordinary" especially if you have talent in the proper skilled positions. Look at how many of those gimmick offenses make it to the Big Game.

There are a good number of teams that have played for the NC running something non-traditional. Take Florida for example, Urban Meyer/Tim Tebow. Or Auburn, Gus Malzahn/Cam Newton. People said those are a gimmick offense, yet it is run by many teams in college today. That base offense is 100 years old!!

Any offense can be stopped by GREAT defense. Non traditional offenses tend to level the playing field when talent is not equal.
Sorry, I just do not like the word gimmick.

It wouldn't surprise me if he picked us as a CFP team in order to jinx us.

I am thinking KH is not so ate up with ill feelings toward LSU that he is willing to sacrifice his creditability to "jinx us".

Herbie does some actual scouting and watches shite others don't... He is not a blab-a-thon like Mark May and Lou.... NOW as far as him picking the Tigers???? Wow thats a bold statement.. I am in the mood to start thinking more positive about this team, without going overboard...I can see A 10-2 season on the Horizon...IF Harris is the starter and has improved as much as everyone says, The sky is the limit for this team............ But still not ready to put themi the playoff... The SEC West is way too tough for anyone to get there this year.... I have heard a lot of homers on here saying all this and that about the rest of the west sucking. I don't buy that..... Bama was very lucky to make it last year... Should have lost to Arkie and LSU....

That's not totally correct. The air raid spread offenses found littered in the Big XII & at the Texas high school level, are the offspring of the late 80s/early 90s Run & Shoot offense. The connecting factor is the lack of usage of a TE & FB. The differences are that air raid offenses use the new age pistol formation, zone read concepts & HUNH. The Run & Shoot was an uptempo, vertical passing phenomenon but those offenses huddled. See the Warren Moon lead Houston Oilers of the 1990s.

You are correct about Auburn & Oregon's rushing attack though. Both passing attacks are similar to the air raid but Malzahn uses Wing T run blocking concepts with his lineman as well as triple option type fakes with the zone read. Oregon uses those as well but that system will even use veer blocking concepts on certain run plays.

Wow, I am truly impressed with your knowledge of the game. You really do know your stuff! More than I for sure.

I still do not consider any of it "gimmick", all schemes are designed with a purpose. I suppose it is about what you believe in as a Coach. I honestly enjoy watching something different... When LSU isn't playing!

Herbstreet has been an LSU proponent for years...say what you want, but he picks us to do well much more often than not and even when others have nothing but bad to say about our team....

NO SURPRISE!!!! This team is loaded with playmakers, difference makers,Solid players at nearly every position. If Meyer would be the Coach here I'd be willing to say National Champs, I'm that excited, last time I felt this way was 2010. Now if Miles stays out, and let Cam call his game and use TE's as is Cam's history( a Qbs best friend)throwing to his RB's(Cams History) A great year will be in store
