Heisman voting (UPDATE: More from Monday)
By Dave Heller

Dec. 5, 2011 1:05 p.m. |(29) Comments

Taking a small sampling of Heisman ballots as posted by votes on Twitter (even though the Heisman committee asks voters to wait until the winner is announced. Good luck with that.)

Ballots are due at 5 p.m. CT Monday with the finalists announced later that night. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III might just win this thing. It will be interesting to see if a Wisconsin player will be invited:

CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman: No full ballot, but said he'll have Griffin No. 1. Just saw he had LSU's Tyrann Mathieu at No. 2, but did not reveal No. 3.
The Oklahoman's Travis Haney: Did not reveal ballot, but replied to Feldman's comment on his ballot of " It's gonna have a Baylor player in the #1 spot. Not sure I'd ever imagined that happening." with "You and me, both."
Sporting News' Matt Hayes: 1. Griffin; 2. Stanford's Andrew Luck; 3. Alabama's Trent Richardson.
The Harrisburg Patriot-News' David Jones: 1. Griffin; 2. Russell Wilson; 3. Luck.
The Gainesville Sun's Pat Dooley did not submit his ballot, saying he'll sleep on it, but right now it is 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Mathieu.
KESQ's Trenton Schlom: 1. Luck; 2. Montee Ball; 3. Griffin.
CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd: 1. Griffin; 2. Ball; 3. Mathieu. "Three most outstanding players, to quote the award itself."
San Antonio News-Express/Houston Chronicle's Mike Finger. Not official, but said he's seriously considering 1. Griffin; 2. Ball; 3. Mathieu.
ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg or Brian Bennett (not sure which as they share the same Twitter feed): No ranking, but said Ball will be in the top three somewhere.
The Orange County Register's Michael Lev didn't reveal his ballot, but said USC's Matt Barkley is on it.
WRUF's (Orlando) Joe Girvin: 1. Griffin; 2. Richardson; 3. Luck. "Tough to leave out Barkley, Ball and The Badger."
Not official, but the Augusta Chronicle's Scott Micheaux intimated that he'll go 1. Mathieu; 2. Griffin; 3. Luck.
Knoxville News-Sentinel's Mike Griffith: 1. Griffin. Doesn't list others, but says "Luck and Richardson also worthy."
CBSChicago's Dan Bernstein: 1. Richardson; 2. Luck; 3. Griffin.
KETV's (Omaha) Mikel Severe: Didn't announce his ballot, but yesterday wrote: "The more I watch RG3 and Monte [sic] Ball the better I feel about my Heisman vote." and "How can you leave off Ball, or RG3 off your ballot? Why is Richardson a better candidate than Ball?"
The News-Gazette's (Champaign, Ill.) Bob Asmussen: 1. Ball; 2. Griffin; 3. Luck
ESPN Tucson's Jody Oehler says he's weighing four players: Luck, Griffin, Ball and Barkley.
Jeff Fellenze, a Sports Business Media professor at USC (yes, he has a vote): Between Luck and Griffin for top spot.
The Austin American-Statesman's Suzanne Haliburton: Gives the cryptic announcement of "Two texans at the top, then a DB. Big 12 flavor at #1." So, likely Griffin (Big 12), Luck (played high school in Houston) and Mathieu.
The Tacoma News-Tribune's Todd Miles: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Barkley.
The Dallas Morning-News' Kevin Sherrington: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Richardson.
Iowa City Press-Gazette's Pat Hardy: 1. Griffin; 2. Barkley; 3. Richardson.
WSFA's (Montgomery, Ala.) Jeff Shearer: No ballot, but says he's leaning 1. Richardson; 2. Griffin; 3. Luck.
North Little Rock's David McCallum: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Richardson.
Delray Beach's Joe Casale: 1. Mathieu; 2. Griffin; 3. Richardson.
NoleDigest.com's John Christ: 1. Richardson; 2. Griffin; 3. Mathieu.
Fox 6's (Montgomery, Ala.) Rick Karle: No list, but says "Richardson, RG3, Ball & Luck fought for my #1 vote."
Cleveland Plain-Dealer's Bill Livingston: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3., Ball.
Forth Worth Star-Telegram's Jimmy Burch: Says Griffin gets his No. 1.
Dallas Morning-News' Chuck Carlton: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Houston's Case Keenum.
Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte: Says Griffin is his No. 1.
Fort Wayne News-Sentinel's Pete DiPrimio: No list, but on Dec. 3 wrote: "Did Monte [sic] Ball just win Heisman? Hard to argue against it."
WJOX's (Birmingham, Ala.) Ryan Brown: 1. Richardson; 2. Griffin; 3. Barkley.
Big Ten Network's Tom Dienhart: Nothing official, but says "I am leaning toward RG3; Luck; Richardson."
KNWA/KARK's (Fayeteville, Ark.) Trey Daerr: 1. Griffin; 2. Mathieu; 3. Ball.
Tacoma News Tribune's Todd Milles: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Barkley.

If I see more, I'll add them in, just keep checking the list and I'll add them in at the bottom. Guessing Ball has a decent shot to get an invite to New York, Wilson probably not.

BALLOTS REVEALED MONDAY

Radio host Dan Patrick: 1. Griffin; 2. Luck; 3. Mathieu.
Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd : 1. Luck; 2. Grffin. Didn't say who No. 3 is.
South Carolina radio hosts Phil Kornblut and Kevin McCrarey put Griffin No. 1 and No. 2. No word on their other choices
Memphis Commercial Appeal's Jeff Calkins: Says he voted Griffin No. 1.
Paul Feinbaum (Birmingham, Ala., radio host): 1. Richardson; 2. Luck; 3. Mathieu.
ESPN's Rod Gilmore says "Luck and Griffin clear 1-2 for me."
HuskerOnline.com's Sean Callahan says "Still haven't made my Heisman vote...Going back and forth on Luck, Barkley, Ball, RG3 and Richardson."
Charleston Post and Courier's Gene Sapakoff: "1. RG3 (closest thing to one-man band), 2. Richardson (got less help from QB than Ball); 3. Luck (BCS bowl)."
ESPN's Ivan Maisel: 1. Luck; 2. Richardson; 3. Griffin
ESPN's Gene Wojciechowski 1. Richardson; 2. Ball; 3. Luck.

I hope Griffin wins. Kid deserves it IMO. I just hope TM7 can make it to NY. He deserves that as well.

Honey Badger seems to be getting quite a few first place votes.

Is there any chance he were to pull the upset and win the whole damn thing?

I don't see how he wins it, but it's looking probable that he is a finalist, which is a hell of an accomplishment

You're doing a wonderful job with these stats.

TigerDroppings could go national again if you sum the votes and have a running total of each of the candidates at the top of the post.

From the looks of those ballots it looks like RG3 is going to take home Heisman.

3 loss Heisman winner from Baylor? I guess that beats having it be a QB from a 3 loss ND team.

I honestly don't see how people could put TR in above Ball. That kid has flat out played ball this year, and is, what, 2 or 3 TD's from breaking the all time record? Give that kid a Heisman, with Honey Badger in second! Haha geaux Tigers!

Also from that blog:
quote:

A few stats I pointed out on Twitter - and this really now probably has more to do with the Doak Walker Award than Heisman:

Take away Montee Ball's 2 TDs vs. FCS South Dakota, and he still had more TDs than 35 teams and tied 6 others.
Overall, Ball has more TDs than 46 FBS teams and tied two others.
FIXED: Ball has 32 rushing touchdowns. Only 10 FBS schools had more as a *team* (and Northern Illinois also had 32).
In three games vs. AP ranked teams, Trent Richardson had 3 TDs. In four games vs. AP ranked teams, Ball had 14 TDs.
In four games vs. FBS winning teams, Richardson had 4 TDs; in five games vs. FBS winning teams, Ball had 16 TDs.
Thanks to the extra game, Ball is now leading the nation in rushing yards.
Ball's passer efficiency rating for the season is 504.40.
Michigan State allowed just 11 rushing TDs in 13 games this season. Ball had five of those.
Oh, and Kirk Cousins vs. Wisconsin in his career: 81-124 (65.3%), 1,041 yards, 11 TDs, 4 INTs in 4 games. The Badgers are glad they won't have to face him again.
