Guys like, Urban, Fickell, Peterson, Stoops, Cristobal, Franklin need to be getting the nod.
Y’all can throw out all the names you want, almost all of those would say no. Why would Cristobal leave Oregon, where he is a CFP contender every season due to a weak conference, to step into the SEC West and be forced to beat Saban every year? Urban already ran from the SEC once, he won’t be coming.
We are the #1 destination job for college baseball and we just saw how that coaching search went. You can’t just snap your fingers and pick up an already proven high success guy.
Napier is the Vegas betting odds leader.

shite, well I guess that settles it! We should hire Napier, he’s a must, because Vegas says so.

Napier is an above average coach, but actually dumber than CEO (have you ever heard that guy give an interview). It would be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. LSU can do better, UL can't.

I’m not saying who it should be...
but a realistic look at a lsu coaching search would have a target squarely on Napier.

That may be what you want but that’s not what’s happening right now. I like Fickell too but he wants Ohio St and would leave from anywhere if it opens.
I know. Would be part of the risk of hiring him, hoping that Ryan Day never stays at Ohio St. long-term.
Although tRant consensus seems to be anti, I've always liked Matt Campbell a lot and think he'd be highly successful here with LSU's infrastructure and resources, which he lacks at ISU.

Can we have a pinned thread with a list of "insiders" and their predictions between now and the date of hire?

Napier would be our 4th or 5th choice at best

Woodward isn’t hiring a guy who has never had a HC gig at the P5 level.

Edited to add. He told me about the baseball hire long before word got out.
Good lord man

not saying Saban would ever consider coming back but you gotta at least make him say no.
No, you don’t. The best thing someone can do as a recruiter is to recognize who you can and, more importantly, can’t go after.
We would look like such bitches if we actually went to Saban right now, and there’s not a snowballs chance in hell he’s leaving Bama for us.
So, no…you don’t make Saban say no. Urban, sure…but he may have his own set of issues after last night.
Woodward is also not going after an old Saban, knowing he’s gonna have to replace in not too long. He’s gonna go after a young, hot coach with a to of upside, or an establishment mid-career guy that has proven to be a winner.

Is your source Kirk Herbstreit?

Not happening- Woodward is not going to risk ruining his reputation on a quick coaching decision! Sooooo much involved, especially when we look at the $$$ picture...
