I wasn't sure if they gave out the award when Pistol Pete was playing, and I couldn't remember if Shaq got one.

TIA

Pete won all of the awards of that day in 1970; Naismith, AP, UPI, Sporting News. No Wooden or Rupp awards back then obviously. Pete also won the Oscar Robertson PoY awards in both '69 & '70.

Shaq won the AP, UPI and Rupp award. Christian Laettner and Larry Johnson won the other awards during Shags final two seasons.

if we had chris jackson without the twin towers he never would have had the chance to have open three after open three.

not to take anything away from chris jackson.

You mean like his freshmen year without Shaq or Stanley where he had 32 ppg?

So, you did not see Chris Jackson his freshman year, I take it?

Just stop. Apologize. You are wrong.

Chris Jackson could create his own shot no matter what was going on. He was unstoppable in college basketball.

Ridiculous statement. Jackson was the 2nd best one on one player in LSU history. Had the ability to create his own shot virtually any time he pleased, often against much taller opponents. He did the same for years in the NBA.

Cj with that forward between the leg dribble and back between legs was money. God those were days when LSU basketball was fun those 80's teams Dale coached were good too. I hope we are heading back too when LSU basketball was expected to be in march madness.

CJ still holds the NCAA record for scoring average as a freshman with 30.2 ppg. In fact, LSU players hold the NCAA record for scoring averages for a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior (CJ and Pistol Pete with the other 3).

I know others already responded, but CJ was the best 3-point shooter I ever saw. He used to drain 3s with a hand right in his face. He had the best touch and a super-fast release. I believe he was only the 2nd player ever at the time to make First-Team All American as a freshman.

holy mother of God.

Chris Jackson was pretty much a one man team his freshman year. Blanton or Singelton played center. You know the best freshman year in CBB Evah? You know the one without Shaq and Stanley

This was after his terrible freshmen year without the twin towers. You know, when he was National Freshman of the Year and averaged 32 ppg?
