Oklahoma State >>>>>>> any MAC, Sunbelt, C-USA, FCS schools

Plus, Miles was a proven recruiter and had success against Oklahoma with less talent. Experience at a BCS shool.

Miles didn't do much before becoming LSU's head coach. So, what did LSU based their decision on for hiring him. It surely wasn't his W/L % b/c OSU was just a mediocre squad while he was there.

Bertman wanted a cheap hire.

Seriously?

Les Miles went 28-21 at OSU, his predecessor went 30-38. Jimmy Johnson went 29-25 as a point of reference. It's hard to win in Stillwater.

Miles' 9 wins in 2003 was the most wins at OSU since 1988. It's the fourth highest win total in school history for a season season (and it's only been done twice). Miles had three straight winning seasons at OSU, which also hadn't been accomplished since 1988. Aside from the Thurman Thomas/Barry Sanders years, the Miles Era is easily the most successful era in OSU history.

That's what he accomplished. To say that Les Miles was not an accomplished coach at OSU is simply false. He did a great job there. Better than almost anyone who has had that job.

Mediocre compared to what? Are you trying to say Okie St. was better before Miles?

Nice race baiting thread

I wasn't really race baiting here. The disparity in the numbers really speak for themselves in regards to blacks being head coaches in Div 1 programs and more specifically in big time programs like LSU.

So, you're telling me that Miles had skins on the wall before being hired by LSU? A mediocre Okie State career warranted an LSU hire?

Randy Shannon was a race card hire as well as a lack of effort to go outside the program. He isn't a great coach anyway but he is black so it's ok. He gets an extra few years to try. Croom was given more time for the same reason. In the end it shouldn't matter how many black coaches there are. If you are good enough someone will want to hire you. Everyone has to pay their dues first. Smaller schools can afford to make moves like this, big schools pay a huge price when hiring an unproven race motivator. See Notre Dame.

Just because corporate america is making a huge mistake by promoting based on race, doesn't mean football teams need to do it too.

Why the frick would you even need to ask of we've ever had a black hc? Seems like something you could look up with ease

By OSU standards he was FAR from mediocre .

What was Saban at MSU? They were looking for a clone of Saban and Miles came from a simular background mentored under a great coach a solid recruiter and experience as head coach at a BCS program.

NAME ONE black coach that LSU could have hired that would have fit this background.

Miles at OSU

4-7
8-5
9-4
7-5

3 Bowl games

28-21 75%

Saban at MSU
6-5
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2

3 Bowl games (resigned before taking 4th)

34-24-1 70.5%

So WHY did we hire Saban based on your criteria?

And moops.

It's Moors you idiot! That must be a mis-type, huh?

BTW, if we're now going to be reserving coaching interviews and hires based on the racial/
nationality quota system, lets open it up to all races and nationalities, not just those of African descent.

You know, I'm really pissed that LSU has never had, or even considered, a Scottish / Southern English-Northern French Hybrid head coach. That's my ancestry and I think it's discriminatory that LSU has never considered a coach with that heritage. It would be awesome to have a Scottish head coach at LSU. The entire coaching staff could wear Kilts and the AD could paint a really cool purple and gold tartan pattern in the endzones. We could even add a Bagpipe section to TGBFTL.

Dan Mullen- MSU
Bo Pelini Nebraska
Mark Richt- Georgia
Charlie Strong - Louisville

See a pattern?

I'm just imagining Pre-Game with that section. How do you salute the four corners with a bagpipe? Hopefully you aren't inferring that section will wear kilts and they'll have their own kind of salute.

Considering there's only 3 black head coaches in all of NCAA division 1 football, calling out LSU specifically for not hiring a black head coach seems unfair to me.

The bottom line with LSU is that it's a job that currently requires division 1 head coaching experience in order to be qualified. This is a fact. We haven't hired an assistant coach to be our head coach since 1988, and that didn't turn out so well, did it?

Second tier programs like Colorado, Illinois, Wake Forest... these are the types of programs where non-head coaches need to be getting experience in order to become upper level head coaches later. If THEY are not the ones hiring minority coaches, then THEY are the ones to point the fingers at.

I honestly believe that LSU fans and the administration wouldn't care if our coach is black, white or any other color. But we DO care if they are qualified. It is not in LSU's best interest to hire someone who does not have prior division 1 head coaching experience, regardless of color. Among the non-white coaches without positions currently, that talent pool is rather slim in size, and quite frankly, undistinguished in record.

why do we have to look at a black candidate, when there are way more qualified white ones. Typical "hope and change" supporter, thinking their entitled b/c of their race.
