Well just a quick look at the attendance listed online in the stats from last year shows an average of 5,633. That's paid attendance.

yep I just went through and calculated attendance.

the box score which reports the attendance averaged out to 5,688 a game. I may have done some math wrong at someplace but pretty much what was reported likely paid is what the article reported.

What is with all the gymnastics parants getting their panties in a wad on this board the last week.

People other than little girls and their parents don't care. It's not going to get coverage. GTFO it.

Yes. Paid is a NCAA recognized stat. Actual isn't.

The LSU baseball article specifically commented that LSU was concerned that despite averaging over 9,000 season tickets only 5,400 were actually showing up.

The gymnastics article did not differentiate, so you may be correct but at face value it stated 5,600 fans attended.

I am not sure you are correct about NCAA recognized stats. For football games they use the actual number present including fans, game management, press, etc. so would presume they do the same for all sports.

I would also question your chart as its very unlikely average attendance dropped 1,000 fans between 2013 and 2014 given the continued rise of he program. The Reveille may need to revisit those numbers.

By the way you do a great job with basketball coverage and I always enjoy your posts.

I find it pretty funny. It's great he is trying to get some jimmies rustled over Gym attendance. More power to our gym team for having more success this season.

Provide a credible link showing these actual numbers.

What is your basis for this assertion. Again, you may be correct, but what are you referencing?

not matter the reliability of the stats SoS posted, you are comparing actual stats to paid stats. That isn't a fair comparison.

Gymnastics may not have many unused tickets like baseball does, but your statement is based on a faulty comparison.

Even if the numbers are right, I've apparently learned there are only 5 home matches a year for gymnastics. If LSU baseball only have 5 home games a year we'd probably be able to get at least 30K per game if the box could hold that. When you have 30 or so games a year with half them being against directional schools you're not going to get capacity attendance.

I don't enough about this to make an assertion with a link. But it makes sense, go look at other box scores for other sports, they will report paid attendance.

For example Sam Houston State vs LSU reported over 100K in the stadium. Where there actually 100K in that stadium? I think most people would say probably not.

Baseball game 2 reported 10,000 attendance, I was at that game, there wasn't 10,000 people at that game, maybe 7 or 8 thousands. Still impressive for the Saturday before Mardi Gras.

Paid attendance is what is officially listed in boxscores. Trust me on this. LSU had nearly 102,000 listed as an attendance for the ULM football game last year. You really think there were that many people there.

I am, but keep up the good fight. Just learn to pick your battles.

Why would you try to prop up the LSU gym team by putting down the baseball team? It makes no sense seeing that the fandom should overlap.

Again, you are making a presumption. I have referenced two reliable sources, not a college newspaper writer.

then why does football, which only have 7-8 home games not get capacity? From your logic, it should....right?

They use paid + teams, refs, staff, press, etc.

LSU football almost never reports actual attendance (because we've never had more than 90k actual before expansion).

In reality, LSU only really cares about reporting paid attendance. They still get the money from the ticket regardless of whether anyone showed up.

We have 100K seats. For the big games we get that.

I'm just saying if LSU baseball only had 5 homes games like gymnastics, they'd sell out every game. The capacity is like 10K and we'd get that.

It sounds like the comparison isn't even right in the first place. The comparison is also weak because people have far less opportunities to see gymnastics where as there are more chances to see baseball games, so people will skip more. Especially if it is against some team like Northwestern State.

That was not really my intention. I bleed purple and goal regardless of the team or sport representing LSU. Just wanted to respond to some previous snark by some baseball fans who tried to assert a superiority attitude.

I would like every sport to sell out every event, but that won't happen. We do have the greatest fan base in college sports.

Has anybody said this yet?

Baseball is on TV. So most viewers can watch at home.

ESPN3’s coverage of LSU vs. Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, June 2, is the network’s most-viewed NCAA baseball game, logging 136,000 unique viewers that watched over 11 million live minutes.

That's one game.
