You are right - some good points... some that jumped out to me
I agree, agree, agree
quote:
Cameron is fortunate he still has his job at LSU, considering his failure at developing Anthony Jennings in 2014 and so-so success with Harris in 2014 and ’15. Compare his job to Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who turned wide receiver Blake Sims into the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in passing efficiency in 2014 and improved Jake Coker drastically as the season went on last year, and Kiffin kills him.
quote:
4.PASS TO THE BACKS, PLEASE: This is something Cameron needs to do to make Harris’ job easier. It involves common sense. Tailbacks Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice are excellent open field runners who can break or avoid tackles as well as anyone in America. Throw the ball to them. Short passes, screen passes. I would say, throw to the tight end more, too, but I’ve given up on that
quote:
5.ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JOE ALLEVA: Stay out of football, please. Miles is not the greatest coach, but he has done great at times and done well enough overall to deserve a chance to do his job free of your power-hungry meddling. Basketball is your sport, Joe, and your hires there have not been good on the men’s or women’s side. So, leave football alone. LSU would have been much better on defense last year had you not drove defensive coordinator John Chavis – one of the best LSU has ever had – away before and during the 2014 season against Miles’ wishes. You might as well try to help Miles instead of hurt him or fire him, because if he is fired, you will probably not have a lot to do with the next hire.
I agree, agree, agree

Hopefully Harris learned how to throw the screen pass in the offseason. His 100 mph passes to Leonard standing 4 yards from him are less than stellar.

I don't agree with him on his Cameron/Kiffin argument. If you blind resumed Cameron's and Kiffin's offenses during their respective tenures at LSU and Alabama they'd be nearly identical, but I know that doesn't fit the narrative that Kiffin's a guru and Cam's a moron.
As for throwing to the backs, I do agree with that one and I don't get it because Cam's backs have always caught a ton of passes everywhere he's been. Tight ends have too.

You can disagree all you want but its undeniable that Kiffin is way ahead in developing College quarterbacks. Alabama, under Kiffen has been great on the offensive side of the ball as he has a willingness to adapt based on personnel and opponent.

That's a great article

During LSU’s three-game losing streak after that 7-0 start, the Tigers’ defense allowed 434 yards in a 30-16 loss at eventual national champion Alabama, 440 yards to eventual 8-5 Arkansas in a 31-14 loss and 432 yards to eventual 10-3 Ole Miss in a 38-17 loss. That’s an average of 435 yards a game. If that was the number for the entire season, LSU would have finished 95th in the nation in total defense. As it was, it finished 25th and fifth in the Southeastern Conference with 347.2 yards allowed a game
I've seen some on here comparing this defense to 2011. I just don't see it. We've got Aranda now, and probably a lot more depth on the front line, but this D has a lot of improving to do before it can sniff 2011 level.

how can anyone compare a team that has not competed for 1 snap against a team that dominated over the course of an entire season?
Yep, its fricking august around here

He can definitely be a total troll, but he can also be an excellent writer. Depending on how he feels that day I suppose.

It's time we move from the Chavis debacle. It's clear chief and Les still have a great relationship. Obviously as fans we have a right to be pissed about the Notre Dame bowl game. But in the grand scheme of things I think we won big. We had to go through a so-so year with Steele and now we have Aranda, a much younger DC.
Chavis is near the end of his career. I'm pissed about how he lame-ducked it in the bowl game, but i'm appreciative of all the hard work he put in over the years. The game has changed and his bend but don't break mentality lost us some games. I still think he is a great DC, just past his prime.
Now we got Aranda! This guy is a stud.

As for more passing to the backs, as odd as it sounds, that takes some touch, for Harris anyway, & so far Harris has not shown it. There were numerous bounce passes to #7 out of the back field, wide open with clear running lanes, and the ball never came close to Fournette's hands. As for the non existent passes to TE's, every year it seems bama hurts us, big time, with passes to their TE's, who catch & run for big yardage. As for any Cameron/Kiffen comparison, Kiffen is successful in no small part due to Saban giving him free rein. Several games last yr, in the fourth quarter, bama needed a drive, Kiffen was shown to be in the middle of the offensive huddle during a time out, while Saban was on the outside looking in. Same situation CLM has the play book firmly in hand & is in the middle of the huddle. Calling the plays.

I'd much rather throw to the TE than the RB's. Every down the Defense's entire focus is on #7. So that might make passing to him a little harder, why not slip the TE out and throw to him? TE is suppose to be the QB's best friend on the field.

I'd probably take Kiffen over Cam, but he's had 2 5th-year Senior QBs the last 2 years. Cam has had 2 true Sophomores.

Keeping Chavis around would have sunk lsu. Allevas best move hs been to force him out.
Now he may not have done it intentionally for the right reasons because he didn't allow miles to make a big hire, but it worked out best for us in the long run.
Chavis' lack of recruiting can still be seen on our defensive line. We are not close to where we used to be before he got here.
Orgeron will right the ship though.

The Kiffin Cameron argument
Offensively, I guess Miles meddles or overrides calls and needs to be more hands off on offense and if that happens maybe we see more of what Cameron did in NFL with the short game if Miles can trust Harris to do it, something he hasn't done since Jarrett Lee became the pick six machine. Even Mett struggled with the short game.
At Bama, most of Saban's meddling probably is done on defense. Kiffin has more free rein under Saban to do what he wants on offense. The only time Saban gets in the way is when Kiffin looks like he's coming unhinged and he corrals him back in.
