Actually when we lost to Ole Miss and Archie Manning on a late TD we were screwed. 69 team was a great team 9-1. They were going to Cotton Bowl to play Texas when ND lifted their bowl ban. Had LsU beaten Ole Miss, at 10-0 they would have played Texas for the NC. LSU team voted not to go bowling that year. Can you imagine Today ?

Two Cotton BOwl games I went to as a kid.

1962 season we beat #1 Texas 13-0

1966 season we beat #2 Arkansas 14-7. (#1 team also lost that day!)

First one that came to my mind. We had a horribly disappointing season in '74 (one where we switched to the veer but Mike Miley chose MLB) followed by a losing season in '75. Cholly mac was trying to right the ship and pre-season #1 Nebraska (w/ Vince Ferragamo) was coming to town.

Great game and one we almost won. Mike Conway missed (not by much) 40+ yd game winning FG attempt near the end of the game.

One of the most underrated crowds in TS history.

1976 LSU Vs Nebraska 6-6 tie, Nebraska was number 1. We missed a field goal to win the game.

I posted about this recently, but Auburn 2001 was one of the best nights in Tiger Stadium I can remember. Kicking Auburn's arse after they stomped on the Eye on a cold December night to punch our first ever ticket to Atlanta was glorious.

A few others:
1999 Arkansas- after not having much to cheer about for two years, seeing Ro step in and wreck shop to finish the season was awesome. (Interim HC Hal got robbed!! He was one of us!! )

2000 Bama- With the UT and MSU games it's easy to forget about this one, snapping a decades long drought against the Tide in BR. Another Instant Classic.

2001 Bama- The best aerial display by an LSU team of all time. Period. And in Bryant Denny no less. Ro to Reed FTW!!!

2003 Arkansas- What an exclamation point on such a legendary season.

2004 Arkansas- That is what that team should have looked like all season. Randall ran that offense to perfection all game.

2006 Arizona- Perhaps the most complete domination in all phases of the game I've ever seen a Tiger team put together. Holy hell I actually felt kind of sorry for those Zona kids

2008 Auburn- My fourth straight trip to Auburn and holy hell it felt good to finally get that W after the previous three nut kick losses I had to endure in person

2009 Arkansas- A rare night game against the Hogs in BR, offense put together a really nice 2 minute drill to get the game to OT, much needed after the Ole Miss fiasco. And Chad Jones going nuclear blast on that poor guy at the goal line

2010 Florida- Game had it all, fake FG to keep the game winning drive alive, with Lee to TT on the fade for the W

2011- Honestly, every fricking game is forgotten more than they should be because of that fricking bullshite Mulligan. Should be the most cherished three months in LSU history with 13 legitimately perfect wins in huge showcase games with every single one filled with memorable plays by legendary players and it was all wiped away by a fricking bullshite campaign to get a media darling in over an OSU team that ESPN thought wouldn't bring in ratings. frick you ESPN, frick you right in your bitch arse pussies.

Ok now I'm too pissed to continue

I loved this game. Probably 85,000 people in the stadium, but it was rocking!

May have been a NC team that year if Mauck stays healthy.

One of the worst Rant myths of all time. That 02 team was simply not that good.

Yeah, we were 5-1 after beating down UF in The Swamp (a five loss Zook team that wasn't even ranked at the end of the year btw), but our other four wins were lackluster wins over Citadel, Miami (OH), Miss St, and a ULL blowout, with a loss to V Tech to open the season.

With Mauck down we then proceeded to get absolutely arse raped by Auburn and Alabama and need a literal miracle to beat Kentucky after they shredded our D all second half, win a 14-13 nail biter against a terrible OM team, before giving up a miracle of our own to even the scales in a loss to Arkansas.

Team wasn't ready, and losing a still work in progress sophomore Matt Mauck was not the difference between an average to below average team and a damn NC team

Rant myth:

Granted, we weren't likely going to be in the NC hunt after losing the opener to Va Tech. But it did take a "miracle" by Arky to eliminate us from the SECCG.

Had Mauck not gotten hurt we probably make it to Atlanta.

That 02 Georgia squad would have skull fricked our 02 team, with or without Mauck.

Our defense simply wasn't good.

The turnaround from the 02 D to the 03 D is still to this day Saban's best coaching job of all time, and that includes his Bama exploits.

This was one I thought of too. I was sitting in the North End Zone when they attempted that kick. When you say (not by much) it was exactly that. I watched it curve off to the right, right before the goal post and barely missed hitting it.

Another good game that I don't remember much of was the Rice game when we won 77-0. We had decided to take a swig outta the fifth of bourbon we brought in after each touchdown. It was 35-0 at half and we were well on our way to a hangover.

Some very good games mentioned, a few others:

1995 Independence Bowl win over Saban's Michigan St. team. Huge offensive plays all game.

2003 Arkansas game (which you mentioned), huge win to get into SEC Championship and eventually National Championship.

2000 Tennessee - Rohan finally getting his chance after Booty lost the previous week to UAB. I think Tenn was a top 10 team at the time and Saban's momentum may have never taken off if we lose to Tenn.

2001 SEC Championship game against Tenn. Mauck coming off the bench after Rohan was injured by a cheap shot.

2007 V. Tech (opener) - we completely destroyed them to start the season and helped to get the benefit of the doubt over them at the end of the year (to squeeze into championship game).

2000 Miss St. - mentioned at least once in this thread but was a huge overtime win against the best team in the West (at the time).

11 Oregon. I know it wasn't close score wise but it was a great game to me.

06 Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. How glorious that was when we beat the shite out of those dicklicks.

Been to many games in Tiger Stadium- The 79 game with USC is one of the greatest i've ever seen- even though we lost.
