But sometimes there’s magic in a quarterback’s senior year. Ask Rohan Davey. Or Matt Flynn. Ask Jason Campbell.

This comparison has been made quite a bit, including people outside of the LSU Nation.

Me likey.

Jason Campbell did suck until he was a senior.

First I would love for JJ to have a Campbell like senior season, but that is a very unreasonable expectation to put on JJ. Campbell set the SEC record for higest QB rating in a single season. His completion percentage was insane - it was about 70%.

I just want to see a confident JJ that is a leader who takes care of the ball. Hopefully improved performance from the past 2 years.

Maybe it's just taken JJ longer to "get it"

All of this hype, and there sure is a lot of it, is starting to worry me. Hope he can live up to it.

Yep. Every QB is different: You can't predict when the "switch will turn on".

Senior Season + New OC + Maturity + Experience + Faith = Good Enough

I don't even have to look to know that Cambell's completion % is waaaaaaay better than that of JJ's. Not to mention, Cambell isn't quite as, how can I put it... DUMB!

Campbell's comp% up to SR year compare to JJ's '09 season and calling a player you don't even know dumb is just thst.

FWIW, I remember Campbell and those Auburn teams, and I remember most of that season saying
"...What? C'mon now, you can't be serious. Not THIS guy..."

Really, the criticism of Campbell was if anything worse than what JJ gets. He was the guy on Auburn that made you feel good about beating them, going into the game

I don't have to know a player to see that they are incapable of making good decisions on the field. The guys cognitive skills are lacking at best, and dumb is the immature yet appropriate word when describing poor quarterback play. If you trust that guy enough to run your offense w/o looking to the sidelines for help, and without looking lost the whole game, than I feel for you. I hope he's progressed, and I truly want him to do well, but I won't compare him to an NFL player that's for damn sure.

I don't understand why people are putting blinders on and hoisting JJ to the sky like he's a hero Heisman candidate when he was #106 last year out of 119. Why isn't there this kind of support for Jarret? I don't get it.

Hope is your answer for most, but most should be sick of hoping after what, 2 full seasons plus?
I want JJ to do well just like any Tiger fan should want, but realistically speaking, when is it time to face reality? Mauck and Flynn were better leaders than QB's, and they could make 'quarterback-like' decisions without someone else telling them what to do. It's called instinct, and it's blatantly obvious that JJ doesn't have it. It doesn't always hurt us, but JJ not having any instinct for the game has made it difficult for us on a number of occasions. We can obviously win with him, but if he were a bit sharper under the helmet winning would be a lot easier.

I have been quite critical of JJ on this board, but I would love nothing more than for him to suddenly 'get it.' That would mean a 60+ percent completion rate, a 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio or better and LSU would go through its schedule with one loss or better.

I'm just not expecting it.

It's simple, really. After 08, our fanbase was certain that we won solely due to Saban's former magic, and it was now gone. We had no hope of winning again, and Miles had to go. He was ruining whatever chance we had left. Thus, no love of Lee or anyone else.
Now, Miles has re-established the program, and we are a favorite again to win it all. Thus, our current QB will arise to stun the world.

Really, lotsa fanbases react this way, based on expectations. Look at the Saints- we have hope, thus the players we have are all good (no, GREAT). So then, people are then indignant that the Saints might seek to replace Pierre Thomas, who is fantastic... but whose actual numbers put him slightly below average for a starting RB.

if you're saying JJ will be more Craig than Campbell, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Craig was a warrior. and Craig's sr. yr was light yrs ahead of JJ's passing last yr. don't really see the comparison though.

If we can get another 09 season out of JJ, with half the sacks, this team will be VERY tough to beat.

Well, i didn't really look up DC's stats to see, but i referenced him since he didn't stick in the NFL and Campbell is at least hanging on. But yes, his playing style would be appreciated over what we have.
