another thing the post season is a sign of how your team is playing late in the season.

the regular season is a sign of how good your team is. A team with a crappy regular season can sneak into the tourney catch fire and win it all. A team who wins 80% of their games or so goes cold and doesn't win it all.

it is unfair to just look at post season success when judging a coach. What is clear to me is that despite missing the post season in 2012 CPM has put together some very good baseball teams who are always in at-least a hosting contention and usually national seeds.

in the last 5 years he has 3 nationals seeds (5 total in his 8 year career) He won the SEC west 3 times, SEC once.

Smoke does compare to what CPM has put together in the regular season.

I'll say it again

CPM > Smoke.

This. Saying you can only compare them in a 5 year span is stupid. There's a reason smoke was only here 5 years and Mainieri has been here 8. Smoke was handed the keys to a juggernaut and damn near ran it into the ground.

yep

he made it 2002-2004 all of skip's recruits with a handful of his. Once 2005 and 2006 rolled around when most of skips recruits were gone, the team fell apart.

In your opinion, what should the average 10-year stretch look like for LSU baseball?

I know it isn't directed at me but

hosts 6 to 7 times (we have hosted 5 times in CPMS 8 year Career
National seed 3 to 4 (we have been a national seed 5 times CPMs 8 year career)
Reach tourney all but 1 time (on this track too)
CWS 2 or 3 times (we have made it to omaha 3 times in the last 8 years)
National champions 1 or 2. (won it in 09)

so according to my expectations CPM is right on track if not ahead of it.

Mine may be slightly low in some area's but college baseball isn't like it was in the 90s or even the 2000s, we aren't going to be able to dominate ever again like the 90s. For how stiff the competition is now of days CPM does a very good job.

Mainieri needs to recruit some hitters. Tired of watching a team that looks like they are in junior high.

How soon we forget 2013. You don't lose Katz, Rhymes and Jones without having some kind of a drop-off in production.

It also deserves mentioning that Mainieri guided Notre Dame to 8 straight NCAAt appearances and a trip to Omaha.

Why does everyone think tanner is a slam dunk over PM? He has one more title in twice as many years. He didnt make omaha his first 5 years there and didnt win a title his 1st 13.

that fact that it even HAS to be said is hilarious. Mainieri is a top 5 coach in college baseball. Smoke laval was a top 5 wing eater at sammys.

Epitomizes Maineris lack of ability to identify hitters. PM cut the dude in a WALK ON tryout. Then he comes back and dominates over PMs players.

Just because everyone remembers his last 3 years. After going to Omaha from 02-04, they didn't go back for 5 straight seasons and only hosted one regional during that span. That would be unacceptable around here.

Why didn't Rhymes get a scholarship somewhere else at a big time program?
