From reading tRant, you would have thought LSU was expected to win @TAMU

I am surprised at the massive amount of backlash from a game even the pumpers like myself thought we were most likely going to lose.
It's as though the entire living under a rock population has come crawling out together. Because of a loss @ #10 TAMU.
Seems there were worse losses this season to have so much collective blabbering.

No kidding. On the road against a top 10 team. We were clearly underdogs.

As a former coach who is now hated here once said, it's not the results, it's the process. IMHO we looked undisciplined and unprepared last night. Not sure what everyone else is hot about, that's mine.
And I know Victor only played 23 minutes.
Not surprised we lost, surprised how poorly we responded in how we played the game in this moment where the kids new it was a big opportunity, the coaches knew and we came out and played like that.

We recruit two 5 stars (on the apparent GOAT) and a 4 star, 1 year to get something from it, and we're supposed to be ok with this average bi-polar season? I agree, the reality of this season is this IS just an average team, but certainly not what most, if not all, fans were hoping for.

Shhhh....pumpers say a loss is a loss....never mind we didn't even put up a good fight.

Well, op, you lack good reading comprehension. The problem is not that LSU lost. The problem is how they lost. LSU is talented enough that they shouldn't get blown out. The team has no positive offensive identity, effort is inconsistent, no intensity, plays terrible defense at times, etc. If the coaching were reversed, TAMU would have been blown out.
I'm not saying Jones should be as good of a coach, but he needs to at least be able to handle the fundamentals, but he doesn't.

Its not that we lost, but how we looked in the loss.
A&M shot 6/25 from behind the arc and didnt play great themselves either.

I only stated I'm surprised by the amount of backlash from a loss on the road to a top 10 team. Perhaps you may want to read again.
I haven't done a count, but it sure seems there are more basketball posts between 10pm last night and now than there have been after any other game this season.
I'm not questioning points or counterpoints, I'm just stating that you wouldn't think this game would cause such an uproar. @UF maybe? Some of the OOC losses?

But OP! Our team should never be underdogs to TAMU to begin with!

When you have the top player and a solid support cast, there is no reason not to expect to win each game, or at least show up.

there should be no other commentary on the game from anyone after reading this

We played some solid defense. I don't think it has anything to do with effort. We missed some easy shots we normally make. Several times our players tried to get layups and there was contact. It's not the refs fault we lost, but I can remember Darcy's And1, at least 2 Simmons layups, and an Elbert where they basically got killed and there was no call.
They have a beast at Center, Victor got in foul trouble, we had no one to counter. With that said, it was a 4 point game with like 9 minutes to go, then we went ice cold. JP missed 2 WIDE open 3's, Hornsby missed one, TQ missed an alley oop layup. Sometimes shite happens not the road.
Kansas played a 9-8 Oklahoma State team @OSU and lost by 20 last night...20!!! And they're the #3 team in the country.

There was a lot of suppressed complaining on the Rant because things were going so well for LSU the past month. The pessimists have been waiting a long time for this.

This. LSU came out after half time with an emphasis on working post play to victor and quickly tied the game up. Then victor got his fourth foul. Add to that the cold nights from the guards and you get a 14 point loss on the road to the #10 team in the country. If 2-3 of those open shots fall, who knows what happens. All considered, I thought the defensive effort was there. With the abysmal shooting in the second half, it could've been much worse.
Also, it seemed LSU couldn't catch a break while A&M continuously had the ball bounce their way. Can't tell you how many times I said "that's just bad luck" - which happens in college basketball, especially on the road.

Well, let's take a look at the situation.
LSU has a good mix of vet role players and good young talent, and preseason was a ranked team. We expected this team to be at least as good as last season's team. Listening to people, you expected Simmons and Victor to more than offset the loss of Martin and Mickey. Victor was supposed to be as good as Mickey offensively, Martin defensively, and be a good rebounder. Simmons was universally touted as just sublime.
We returned Hornsby, Quarterman, Gray and Patterson, who are all capable of contributing and expected to play better with another year under their belts. We thought we might be able to get at least a few minutes out of big Elbert and Epps, since they are now sophs. We also added Blakeney, who WOULD have been our hot new freshman had it not been for Simmons, and Sampson, who seemed like a solid pickup. We did the Australian preseason tour (a direct result of the Simmons hype), which normally is just the type of thing that helps a team bond.
We were the darkhorse SEC contender.
Then the season began, and losses began to mount. So the excuses started- first it was Victor was not eligible yet and Hornsby was injured; now it's that we can't appreciate Simmon's greatness due to our basketball ignorance.
Regardless, we entered this game in a similar position to Arkansas in our football season; a "good" team with some early surprising losses, in desperate need of a big win, against a ranked team that doesn't need the game nearly as much. A&M, barring a total collapse, is in, and we are right outside the bubble with little margin for error. Arkansas football produced, while LSU basketball competed, but fizzled at the end.
The excuses no longer apply; our team is healthy and intact now (unless you count Bridgewater as a major component). We recently torched Kentucky. It's 2/3 of the season in, and players should be acclimated to each other by now.
Frankly, this game was a must-win, and like the season as a whole, the team started with a lot of potential, then just imploded when it counted.

exactly this.
A hard-fought, intense effort with a close loss wouldn't have us upset.
But a lackluster 14 point loss is hard to stomach.
