While listening to Sports Today, they mentioned Bower & Neal could see some meaningful PT at DE, Kendall Beckwith could push for a spot at outside LB and Rickey Jefferson was ahead of the curve at SS. ( which apparently he didn't play a lot of in HS)
* Not really that shocking. Tre'Davious White is expected to fit into the nickel from day 1.

RJ must have really looked good during the summer because Miles named him as a freshman who could see a lot of time.

Lewis Neal, through his recruitment, seemed like the most likely DE to see the field early. He's not a prototype DE size wise, so he's really developed his technique. Plus he's quick as hell. I see him as a 4 year contributor, size being something that will keep him in college longer than his talent would dictate.
Jefferson played mostly CB and WR in HS. His cover skills will help at SS, and he seems to be a pretty heady player. I think a lot of comparisons to Brandon Taylor will be made.
Bower was a big pick up. Locking him down allowed us to stop pursuing another DE in this class that may not have been an early PT guy for us, which was a need. We needed to get DEs that could step on the field right away. He still could potentially beef up, just like Frank Herron, but I'm glad we'll be getting to see him early at DE.

Just noticed that someone else had a thread on this. Sorry about that y'all.

i could see all of them having roles, obviously white will see the most pt
Interesting that jefferson is making noise at ss, thought he'd be better suited at fs. Thompson better watch out

It was also mentioned that K.Beckwith is built exactly like K.Sheppard when he left LSU.

question, what all drills could the DEs have been doing to impress the staff this early?
I know they are working out over the summer and the skill guys do 7 on 7 but what else could the lineman be doing to impress the coaches so much?
is it strictly strength and conditioning that could have our coaches so high on them?

do you think robinson gets meaningful pt this year?
Posted on 7/25/13 at 12:23 pm to LsuTool
Great question, I don't know what the DE & DL could be doing since fall camp hasn't started yet.

Did they mention Frank Herron any? Haven't heard his name all summer.

He was mentioned as a guy that is in the mix at DE.

I think he had minor surgery, knee scoped maybe?

I don't know if I agree with redshirting Robinson. If he is top 5 or 6 CB let him play what little time he'll get. If he turns out like we think no way he'll stay a 5th year anyway. Top 4-5 round grade in the draft he's gone after his rsjr year anyway. Plus we need to keep players moving along to keep them coming in, DBU. Ron brooks and Craig loston are 2 contradictions to this train of thought however
