The players can almost be expected to get drunk the last weekend before the season begins, but he did not plan properly for the post-2AM party.

Look at it this way, the football season started out the same way, and look how that turned out. UNDEFEATED SEC CHAMPS! maybe they are following the trend

You would think being from bossier city he would be scared to drink and drive. Cops around here are the WORST!

Most people would have a much different opinion had this young man killed someone. Have I ever drank and then driven a car? You bet! Motorcycle too! I was around 22 when I did. My drinking & driving stopped when I just missed a Louisiana trooper catching me with beer on ice and drinking one. I handed a bottle to my wife and told her “I’m caught”. He flew by and I pulled over and threw every bottle into the woods and never drank and operated a vehicle since.

I’m proud that I made that choice. When I look back prior to that day, the times I was so drunk I could not recall if a light was red or green. It’s not worth the risk of another person’s life.

How many football or basketball players have had DWIs while in season? Yes, college kids get drunk. The vast majority do not get DWIs. Athletes on scholarship should be held to a higher standard as well. Every kid deserves a second (and sometimes third) chance, but I think his decision making should absolutely be questioned.

They may get away with stuff, but do you really think they are getting away with DWIs while blowing .0144? I don't. Also, I would imagine the cops around Tigerland are being extra fricking harsh after the Joey Branch incident. It was a poor decision, and the kid will face the consequences. I don't think it should ruin his life or anything, and if he makes good decisions from here on out, it won't.

Also, for all of you DWI is the scourge of the earth people, it's still just a misdemeanor. It's not a huge deal.

You replying to me? I am defending the guy.

Baseball banquet was Friday night at the Crown Plaza to kick off the season. Several old players there, some pounding it hard. Cash bar, no current players drinking at the banquet, hope they didn't go out with some of the former players afterwards. No names, but if you've been around BR for a while, you know the former players that are still local and like to go big. Pissed for the team, and I'm sure the CPM is going to go ape on the rest of the team. Oh, and this was after Paul Byrd's featured speech about not being selfish, being a team player, and being born again, and how he wish he'd been a better teammate while he was at LSU.
I know, csb, my sister wasn't there, no pics, and there were plenty of hotties in attendance that I would have piihb.

Harmless event. You have got to be kidding me. Are you promoting drinking and driving. No excuse, regardless of how old you are. Maybe you should ask every single parent who has lost a child to a drunk driver. by now these kids should now the consequences of their actions. No matter how much I love baseball or how good this kid may or may not be, he made a choice. I hope CPM sets the bar and lets players know up front that this behavior will not be tolerated.

Luckily he didn't kill anyone while he was under the influence. I know for a fact, you would feel a whole lot differently had you lost a loved one to a drunk.

Possibly. Still, it's something most people who drink have done. Give him 2-3 weeks off and forget it happened.

I got a feeling the punishment from PM depends on the players caliber. If Mikie had done this during last season, we probably never find out about it, or at worst, he would've gotten suspended for a couple games.
