Will Tulane consider Mike Leach for the job?

They'd love Mike Leach I'm sure. Mike Leach would laugh at them.

Of course, he would laugh at it & not take it. But at least Tulane would show that they care at least some about football by just contacting Leach.

Frank made it out of Nicholls and that is the graveyard of all graveyards with that AD and VP. Frank has learned a lot, but organization is the key. Porter has not learned, and I think he hired a lot of inexperienced high school coaches who brought players. But, if he wants to be a HC, this might be his big chance.

LSU would still get the top recruits from NOLA (maybe not as easily) but it would be those guys like John Thomas, Darrian Dyson, Derrick Raymond and Otha Peters that Frank Wilson would take.
He'd probably make for a pretty good team. I'd doubt Freak or Dwayne Thomas or Ronnie Feist would go to Tulane over LSU or other SEC school.

you need a D1 school in the host city

there is no D1 football team in:
Jacksonville where the Gator Bowl is.
Shreveport where the Independence Bowl is
San Antonio where the Alamo Bowl is
Detroit where the Motor City Bowl is
Mobile where GoDaddy.com Bowl is
there are also a few other newer bowls in cities without d-1 football

I would be surprised if Tulane would offer 1.5 mil to any coach that is not at LEAST a OC or DC at a D1 school.

Why do I get the feeling that the first thing the new coach is going to do is call out LSU for not playing them every year.

then Wilson would be a DAMN FOOL to turn down a 4 year guaranteed contract.

he could go the porter route and pocket a bunch of money and come back to LSU or elsewhere in a few years. besides, a coordinator doesn't make that much so it would take him over 5 years to make that kind of money.

A good coordinator at a LSU level program makes close to that. Going the route of Porter wouldn't be a good idea. Tulane is a freaking graveyard, success is highly unlikely. Its very possible that Porter never sniffs another head coaching job. When a coach fails to the degree he has at Memphis their future options are very limited. Failing like that is like a stain that you can't wash off. Not saying its right or fair its just the way it is.

michael j, the LSU coordinator make less than $800,000. not close to mid point of 1 - 1.5 million range. in wilson's case, he is behind stud in the race for lsu coordinator and if stud gets the job he will be there 3-4 years. that puts wilson 5-7 years away from the kind of GUARANTEED payday he can get today. he would be a fool to turn down the tulane job.

every one of those cities has a D1 school in a sport. no one said it had to be football.

Centanary was division 1 until this year, not sure who is the host school of the Indy Bowl though

Where did I say anything about him taking a coordinator job at LSU? IMO he would be better served taking a bump in pay which he would get from LSU and staying here until a good coordinator job was offered to him somewhere rather than go to Tulane. I know Frank Wilson maynot be at LSU much longer and will look to move up the ladder. But IMO Tulane would be a bad move for him. Have you ever considered that maybe money isn't the biggest thing for "HIM"? Maybe its the right job?

So you are saying that D1 basketball schools with no football are hosting these bowl games?

I can assure you that Centenary has nothing to do with the Indy Bowl. In fact, I don't believe there is a college that is involved, as a host or otherwise.

No Tulane was looking to drop down to UNO's level.

I like Frank Wilson, but the list of successful head coaches that started out as "ace recruiter" contains about zero names.

And the fact Wilson is not even a DC or OC, is even more of an issue...remember that Orgeron was a DL coach, and yeah, he could recruit, but where did it get him at Ole Piss?? Wllson needs more experience, and a chance to be a coordinator first. Of course, a BCS champtionship this year would go a long way...
